I wish the roads were cleaned better in the US

If we (US) would only catch up to European models in sweeping our highways and roads more often, that would eliminate so many rock pebbles flying around!! I've seen the same plastic cup on the side of the road to work for more than 4 months!! Now imagine the thick layer of pebbles there!!

Dude, the mafia can't pay for their house, their condos in Boca, their wives, their girlfriends AND better street sweepers.

Get real, man.

Caltrans can't even fill in 6 month old potholes on the 880 much less sweep up all the debris from trucks and endless car crashes

You think those billions in government pension liabilities are going to pay for themselves?

There is so much rock and debris on the roads in my area. You have no idea who much I wish we had this.

No trash on the roads here, but the roads are trash. Not sure if the workers are just stupid or budget gets stolen

I agree. the roads here in the US are GARBAGE, expecailly when you compare them to the roads in Europe. Like in Germany, Italy, etc.

Yup. Just got back from Germany last week where I was doing 130mph on the Autobahn. The roads are as smooth as glass. If you tried doing that here: 1). You'd get arrested and 2). You'd wreak your suspension once you hit a pothole. It's embarrassing when you come back to the US after seeing their highways and transit systems. They are building a high speed train in Stuttgart that looks to be incredible when it's finished.

Agree, that's one of the big downsides of going home to the US, the roads and drivers on those roads.

Wars, yes. "Illegals"? No. Immigrants, including undocumented immigrants, contribute more to the US than they take. They are a net positive economically. They also commit less crime than citizens and permanent residents per capita.

The real problem is that the Federal government has abandoned the states and no longer gives the states their fair share of Federal fuel taxes.

So maybe the next infrastructure project should not be a make-believe wall that somebody else isn't going to pay for on our southern border, but more money for roads, airports, bridges, sewers, water systems and the rest of our decaying infrastructure.

No, you wouldn't if you drove there everyday. You're forgetting about the amount of money you need to shell out for tires and alignments. The other big thing that you don't realize is the rules of the road that they almost all abide by. No trucks can leave the right hand lane, only passing on the left. (You can actually get a ticket for passing on the right). No texting and driving. No tailgating and giving the finger to other drivers. Again, all ticket able offenses. Compare that shit to the US. Not even close.

How would we know this if they are undocumented?

Roads(actual roads and cleanliness) have been horrible around me forever. I have to commute highway 50 e/b through Sacramento and they have been doing all kinds of road work throughout the past ten years that never seems fully finished. Let alone the TONS of rocks/pebbles/concrete that are all OVER the freeway and constantly pelt your car non stop unless you are a mile behind the person in front of you.

95 North and South on the east coast between Mass and NJ takes the cake for a horrendous road. Terrible.

It's all a matter of size and money... Germany, for example, is about the size of Montana. Yet it has a population about equal to our 3 most populous states combined (Cali, Texas and Florida). That's a lot more tax inflow for a much smaller place.

Additionally, the use has over 6 million miles of road surface, compared to Germany with less than 650,000 miles worth. In fact, the closest European country in miles of roadway is France at just over a million.

Low taxes; Cheap fuel; good roadways. Pick 2.

Unless you live in New York. It's high taxes, pricey fuel and shitty roads. Their idea of a fixed road is by paving a speed bump on top and calling it fixed, but damn of you overstress and overpay that union worker for a third of the production...

I've seen road crew fix potholes, they throw asphalt in the hole and smack it with a shovel, done. Then we have streets in Boston that were perfectly fine but after digging and then patching the road turned in to complete shit.
One of the most expensive cities in Boston area is also the city with worst roads. This was so like 10 years ago (I remember radio host complaining), and now it's just like a war zone.....

I really think this road construction business is corrupted as fuck

Legalize marijuana in your state and you'll have an abundance of tax dollars to allot towards road quality. Our roads are pretty good now, and the ones that arent are under constuction or soon to be.
