My GM product has 18,000 miles on it (in nine months) and has been back to the dealership exactly 0 times. I abuse it mercilessly. Everything works perfect. The fit and finish is, quite frankly, pretty good, although nowhere near as jewel-like as my BMW. It sucks gas like crazy, but so does my 335i (avg 12.5 mpg to date). At least the tax write-off for 6000-plus GWVR offsets the gas cost.

My first BMW was a complete p.o.s. Nevertheless, it was amazing to drive when it worked (which unfortunately it almost never did).

Like others here, I bought my BMW because of how it drives, fully knowing and understanding that it probably would not be a completely reliable car, and fully aware that it was not at all unlikely that it would visit the service department often! It is not a daily driver.

That G8, however, would probably be a helluva nice daily driver. Or maybe that new CTS. Cars that are competent that I'm not likely to be overly obsessive about (like I am with my 335). If my truck gets a few rock chips, F-it, it's a truck. The same mentality would probably apply to domestic sedans, although they're not go-anywhere indestructible like full size trucks are.

[QUOTE=quagmire;2387458]Actually, GM at least has gone to the 60 deg V6 design. The 2.8(DOHC), 3.5(OHV), 3.6(DOHC), and 3.9(OHV) V6's are 60 degree V6 designs. The only remaining 90 degree V6 at GM is the 3.8 and that is dying within the next 2 years. The OHV V6's are also dying and the 3.6 design will be GM's new workhorse V6.

I know and it's great news. Unfortunately the in-line 6 is a dying breed. It died when most american cars went front wheel drive. Every American manufacturer had straight sixes in the '50s and 60's. It's still a popular design for diesel truck engines. Long live the I-6. My daughter in-law just bought a Volvo XC90. Transversely mounted Straight 6! Neat.

Comparing build qualities, BMW would win hands down.

I think the moral of this thread is don't buy a VW. LOL

My friend has a 1 y.o. Passat 4Motion 3.6. Very nice car, but it has been back to the dealership for brakes, wiper motor, power window motor. Probably they know the real story on the VW forums, but she needed new brake pads at 19k. Went to two dealerships, and after 3 visits, the pads were not in stock. WTF? I have brake pads in stock in my garage for my Nissan, and I'm a DIY. How would a dealership not have pads for a Passat, even after a 2nd trip to them for a scheduled appt.? And please tell me they use synth oil, because my friend paid $98 for an oil change.

GM has recently (past few years) gotten their shit together. A few years ago I would have never thought about buying a GM product (except for a HD truck), but after we purchased our 07 Yukon I'm inclined to look at them in the future. The build quality, the workmanship and the reliability are really starting to come up in all their lines. Granted my Yukon was 50 grand, but compared to the competition's offerings I think that is a fair price. I can only imagine they will continue to improve their offerings. BTW is anybody else excited about the new Camaro? That thing looks dope.

it's nothing special?? Have you seen it on a track?? Find something else at 62K or less (yes that's what you can get new one for right now) that comes close to touching in on a straight line or a track...7:42 at the ring..nuff said

Yes, it's just amazing...and only for a measly $20 g's more.

What's the point of keeping the business running if every time you produces a car, you actually lose money? That's American Car Industry for you.....

The GT-R. But, I agree the Corvette in general is a very respectable track car. Anyone that is ignorant to that fact will be humiliated when they go up against even the regular LS3 'Vette bone stock( don't even think about a modded 'Vette). Then get to the Z06, it will leave you wishing you were in the middle of no where. Don't even think about the ZR1........

Disclaimer: This is taking for granted the drivers are people who know how to drive and the ignorant person is driving a V2 335i.

Funny how Supras only need 6 cylinders and either only one or two turbos to achieve just about, or over 1000 hp. And the Bugatti Veyron needs 16 cylinders and 4 turbos to achieve 1000 hp hah.
