Am I nuts?

I have an opportunity to sell my 2019 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS (7 spd manual, chalk color) for what I paid for it a year and 6k mikes ago. I’d like a a Tesla Model S Plaid, which I’d buy at MSRP ($145k). Am I nuts? Stupid move? I have a low miles, modified F10 M5 which I adore and don’t plan to sell so I don’t need a sedan per se. the 911 is most awesome but I’m not connecting with it 100%. I know, firstworld problem. Thoughts?

I wouldn't. For me the 911 and most Ferraris are at the top of the sportscar world.

What specifically is preventing you from connecting with it?

The smallness of the car, I’m 6’1”, stocky build at 240lbs. It’s not bad honestly. Heck, I just did a 2000 trip with it but it’s no S Class. Not M5 fast either but a $1500 tune fixes that too.

If you can test drive one, let that be the deciding factor.

You'll be leaving a car with soul and into one that has none. The fun will wear out quick as it won't be as engaging to drive. Plenty of other vehicles out there to enjoy that are ICE cars. I'm a bigger guy as well so I know your pain. I picked up an Audi A8 since the Z4 feels too cramped on long drives.

Why would you give up what is arguably a top tier sports car for a toaster oven. Sure the Tesla is lightning fast in a straight line but that's like comparing an Apple Watch to a Chopard, Rolex, Omega etc. The Tesla will drop in value like a stone, the Porsche will hold value and likely appreciate.

This. But perhaps OP needs to learn that himself. Be prepared to be disappointed in build quality.

Maybe I'm old, but no real car guy would trade the Porsche for a Tesla.

You’re likely right. I have numerous cars so perhaps that the difference. I did start off asking if I’m nuts….😉

If you aren’t connecting with the Porsche, go ahead and sell it. No sense in having that much money tied up in a car you don’t love when an opportunity presents itself to recoup the entire purchase price. But I’d skip the Tesla unless you want to get out of the M5. No sense selling an apple to buy an orange when you already have an orange.

I did that 11 years ago. Sold my 911 GT3, because I wasn't connected with it. Ended up with the cars I love. The i8 because of its design, my childhood dream 325i Convertible (and because I love convertibles) and a Pampers Bomber 520d Touring as the Family Car.
So now I'm stuck, but happy. Except, I might replace the E30 with an E30 M3 Convertible. But it costs 75k more.

Follow your heart. Life is too short.

Makes sense. What about an AMG GTC? Personally I can't see trading an iconic sportscar for a Tesla.

Panamera Turbo?

AMG SL? Looks nice, is 2+2 which might mean more room, and the SL is a GT which should mean a bit more comfortable.

I considered it before buying the 911 but not a convertible guy. It’s a bit long too. Good suggestion however.

If you’re not feeling it, you’re not feeling it.

I wouldn’t keep an expensive car just because on paper (or a forum) it’s a better car. But I’d try to figure out exactly why you aren’t connecting because a Tesla may give you less to connect with.

The plaid is sweet tho!

Another thing to consider is that the Tesla Plaid is incredibly fast IF you give it 4-7 minutes to prep itself for drag mode, which in my opinion ruins most of the fun. Plus make sure you have a nearly full battery…

Personally if I were you I’d keep the 911, run an aggressive tune and enjoy the Sound of that beautiful 6 cyl.

with the way prices are now, getting what you paid for it is a low ball offer.

Words can't even describe what I'm thinking .
Just one thing, there's no way you are a car guy if you are thinking of trading a porsche GTS for a Tesla.
