Auto Steering Wheel Heating Gone - Again!
After my last post on this issue, it eventually seemed to have resolved itself.
Yesterday morning it worked fine, but I noticed on the way home from work that the seats and steering wheel didn't automatically switch on, despite the cold temps outside (I have mine set to come on if below 10oC). Same thing last night and this morning. The "auto" options have been removed from their ususal place in the Car/Settings/Climate menus, and the climate app is now also missing from the installed apps. Tried refreshing installed apps and did a reset of the iDrive, all to no avail. Anyone else noticed the same thing, and any recommendations? James.

Yep - I put a post about this in this forum and the UK G20 forum. Seems it's glitches in the idrive and isn't dependent on software version as it seems to be happening across the board.
It's really annoying! |

BMW delivers iDrive releases based on geographic markets. Sounds like there is definitely an issue with the UK release as although the heated steering wheel, seats and armrest moved to the Climate Control app vs the original iDrive settings here in the US they've been rock solid through the 07/2021 software.

Quick update for those interested...
Driving to a business meeting this morning when I suddenly feel my steering wheel and heated seat getting warm - without any input from me. I cheked my installed apps and sure enough, Climate is back and so are all the options for automatic activation of seats and steering wheel. Does anyone know if BMW makes any "minor" OTA updates outside of the major software releases. It seems strnage that these features disappear and then appear again.

I have a similar issue in my 2018 5 series. The steering wheel heater always comes on, the seats however do not at cold start. The seats will come on if I had driven then stopped and restarted but it is delayed. Weird.

Yes, apps and service updates happen aside from the full OTA revisions. You could force it yourself if you'd like as well.

Yeah, the idea of having fairly core vehicle operations in an "App" adjacent to items like Spotify on the car is quite odd. My guess is the iDrive team is buried and couldn't bother with some bugfixes for iD7, so outsourced the development to a different team. They already had some service handlers out there for the BMW Care/Vitalization garbage, so let those goons hack together something to fix to the auto climate control if it needs to be done.
