How to decline software update

My car is prompting me to update to 11/2023.50. I have done every other update but dont want to do this one. Eveytime i need to get my car recoded including my custom ambient light colors. My car dowloaded the update but I dont want to do it. That said I can't deal with the notifications everytime I get in and out of the car and my phone in the BMW app. Its been about 2 weeks and still showing up. Any help gentlemen? r33_RGSport ?

You can only fight it for so long. Service may do a software update if your VIN is flagged. Also if any module or certain other electrical components are replaced, a software update may be required. So, consider any workaround that might be suggested here as kicking the can down the road.

You'll need to disable something, I am not so sure how to do it since I don't get as many update as others.

But, as claykin said, you can disable it and dealership will do it when you are in for service.

Perhaps in iDrive under notifications?

You can open the owners manual embedded in iDrive then use the keyword search feature...simply input "notifications" by voice or by using the iDrive controller knob.

Isn’t there a section for data privacy and if you uncheck everything your car is disconnected from them? I might be wrong, I just remember seeing something along those lines.

1 part of the equation. Disable in the privacy settings plus within the MyBMW app disable OTA automatic downloads. Then you are in full control.

If the OTA is on the car it can still be declined if it ever (stated with chagrin as OTA applying even on the car is hit or miss) prompts to start decline. After about 60 days it will automatically be nuked from the car and you'll even get a notification that the upgrade is no longer available.

As stated though, if there is any safety "fixes" in an upgrade the dealer may be compelled to apply it anyway during a service. As it stands now there are none whatsoever as even through 03/2023 there were just tweaks to DAP lane change assistance and a few others for DAP but not flagged with a service bulletin for safety.

Fwiw, I disabled SW updates (in mmi and app) in early 2020 and it's never updated on its own. The dealer also knows not to update anything without my consent and thus far no updates.
