pre-owned 8GC inventory
So as I contemplate what comes next after my G30 540i that I’ve had 5 years now (fantastic all rounder, especially the B58 engine), an 8GC is on my short list along with the G60 540iX. Why an 8GC over another 5er? Beautiful car, great styling, built for comfort, actually has buttons instead of everything on idrive, just to name a few things.
As I’m looking at the pre-owned inventory nationwide (US) I’m struck by how much it skews to the M850i rather than the 840i. As much as I love the B58 engine, I think I’d opt for a low mileage M850i GC if I could find the colors and options I want. But can anyone explain/speculate why it’s easier to find pre-owned M850i’s when 840i’s are probably 60% of the production? Thanks

I wish BMW would show break downs of models but they have not to what I've done for digging. Region also plays a big part of it as well. I see more 840's for sale in midwest but not much around here in AZ. So who really knows why...

I’ve turned down a few 911 “gifts” lately. Dealers are starting to collect lower model 911s as the market slowed a little. A low spec T crossed my email the other day. Lack of a sunroof killed it for me. But even Porsche is slowing on their red hot car. Personally I think an m8 , while less exciting, is more practical. The 992 wind buffering when windows are down is awful. A few other weird things this gen need to be refined for 999.2 Did the m8 even have an lci? |

When I checked new 8 series inventory across the country, well mostly east and west coast with some metro CHI and TX, back in the summer literally 60% of new inventory was 840 coupe and GC. That tends to follow dealer allocations rather than short term supply. But if early production from ~2018 didn’t include 840 that could explain it.
As for a 911, sure it would be possible but actually closer to a new M850i and M8 than 840i. They are 130+ and 2 year wait to get an order produced. But I like/need 4 doors until I have a 3rd garage space again.

It kinda did lol... not much of anything I think the biggest thing was the screen went up an inch or 1.5inch in size.... Even with that all they did was enlarge the font so they made zero use of the space due to the screen lack of resolution.

The best old example was the z3 in 2000… the m roadster never got the interior updates or the facelifted taillights. And I know you’ve heard jt before- this M8 will be the last of its kind. But it really might be… |
