M850 front splitter

Merry Christmas forum members!

Just purchased a new 2023 840 and thinking about putting the OEM M850 front splitter/spoiler on it. Has anyone done this or any info/advice on installation?

Thanks in advance!

If other 840 owners were interested or wondering, the 850 bumper is different. The 850 bumper has additional round holes on the bottom that aren’t on the 840, but this is not a problem bc dealer said those could be drilled, but the show stopper is that there are also square holes. So my dream is dead

I just knew that would be easy to find and I like the look. Don’t want something too over the top like the Maxton for example. Plus I’m guessing since that one also for 850 it doesn’t work on 840 either.

I don't think you really need to use the square holes, they appear to be more for alignment. I just replaced mine on my M850i

Interesting as the 2020 M840i had an option to in essence end up with the M850i front and rear spoiler/diffuser aka the M Sport Package with 715 being the aerodynamic aspect. Just checked the build your own aka configurator and no longer an option. Not sure when BMW killed that but guessing there is a way for the mod.

Granted I haven’t seen the splitter myself so just going off of pictures of it, but I think without the square holes it would not sit flush against the bottom of the 840 bumper. I’m still checking into it though. The dealer had both an 850 and an 840 in for service and has a splitter in stock as well and said they checked and it doesn’t work bc of the square holes in the 850 bumper.

I really think you could just snip the little L shaped pieces off the splitter that fit in the square holes. The 13 screws will support the piece just fine..... It appears the L shaped pieces are there to ease installation versus structural integrity of some sort

Here's a photo of it

Your quite welcome. Not sure what your stealership wants for it but this is where I ordered mine

Ultimately, if it doesn't work for you you can always sell it on here as these things get beat up rather easily!

fmzip , do you, or anyone know which screws we should use to attach the splitter?

Yes, the stock screw is 13 per, PN is 07149213164 which screws into 13 of these clips 51717065773

If you don't have holes in the botton the bumper, you can likely just use the screws to penetrate the bumper and omit the clips. I'd suggest buying both to then assess the situation when you install. It would be best to use the clips so the screws have something to turn into versus just biting into plastic of the bumper

The parts mentioned are items 10 & 11 in the photo

Looking forward to seeing the end result. Please post pics when it's in!

Did you manage to get it on your 840? I have one too and like the idea.

I haven’t yet. Freaks me the F out to think about drilling 13 holes in my car!

Also don’t know what it attaches to and could have 130+ mph winds pushing on it…

I Installed mine on my M850 myself. It came from the factory with the splitter and proper screws and threaded clips in the trunk.

The square holes are behind the round holes. You slide the metal threaded clips into the square hole and align the threaded potion over and under the round holes so the splitter has something substantial to screw into making it very secure. It also aids with the proper alignment of the splitter.

Actually, the rubber/plastic front splitter is perfect for this car precisely because it gets so dinged and scratched up
