That’s a pretty extensive list of things my lowly G30 has that’s missing in the much more expensive 8. Perhaps I need to get a much closer look. My dealer has a couple preowned M850’s.

REAR WHEEL STEERING

My 840d coupe has that as standard, plus AWD and it was one of the main reasons why I bought the car. After 20 months I still can't believe how you can power it through a series of bends.

My #1 wish - Resale Value.

Love the car, but I can't believe how little these things are being bought for lately...couple of smoking deals on BAT for cars with less than 3,000 miles.

At first some of these things don't really matter.
Then after owing it a while I realize these things would have been nice. Anyway here's my own personal list is as follows. What's yours?
Brake discs slightly smaller in diameter to permit fitting 19", or even better, 18" wheel rims. Love my 840d coupe but hate the ultra low profile 20" tyres.

Another pet hate of mine is the obligatory fat steering wheel rim along with the lack of feedback, especially within a few degrees either side or centre you get from BMW electric steering. Before I bought my 840d coupe I had a Porsche 911 for a 24 hour test drive, such a tactile steering wheel that you could get your fingers and thumbs around, not to mention the response and feedback. Of course, there will be those who disagree and it all comes down to personal choice but I think Porsche engineers know a thing or two about cars, including steering wheels!
Only reason why I didn't buy the 911 was down to lack of storage space and I don't regret going for the 840d, but I still hate that thick rimmed steering wheel!

19s will fit. I ran a winter set of 19s last year. The standard BMW snow set is 19s.

Had that in the original running hot 2019 M850i which gurgled/burbled in Comfort and Sport or Sort Plus was a fourth of July fireworks show with ridiculous pops and bangs. Then came exhaust gate aka the neuter that took it all out with Sport Plus but even then 50% of what it was. 😭

Thanks very much for that, I thought 20" rims were the smallest that would clear the front brake calipers. Apart from the fat rimmed steering wheel and 20" rims, I love everything else about the car and plan on keeping it for a few years. So I'll definitely look into a new set of 19" wheels and tyres.

Speaking for the M8C Coupé I recently got and coming from an M850i, my personal wishes (in casual order) are:

1) Auxiliary heating (= no remote engine start needed, works great on wife's G02 X4 we love it)
2) Integral active steering as on the M850i (loved it)
3) Seats massage options
4) "Just" a bit more rear space to at least sit decently
5) 21" BMW original wheel options (should be a MUST for such a muscle car)
6) Double LED light in trunk or one very strong LED element
7) Electronically adjustable thigh support
8) More interior lighting options
9) NO OPF! (But this is not BMW's fault.....)
10) I'd wish (stock) for a few more HP and NM to improved on its already great performance

Ok, I'm going to "go there....":
An electric motor to drive the front wheels. Yeah, I know it's already AWD, but just look at that new Corvette e-Ray and tell me this wouldn't be bad ass with an electric motor. Would not take anything away from the mighty V8 or its sound.

I have a M850 gran coupe:

1. Better steering, what a joke in the twisty's, acts like the steering does not want to do its job. Get rid of the electric steering and replace with a hydraulic unit.

2. Different dash, interior. The 8 series is supposed to be the flagship....disappointing to get in a 2 series with the same dash, almost the same console and seat design. Been counters at work, but this does not assure me that I am in a premium car of the maker.

2a. Analog dash gauges with true water temp, oil temp, oil pressure. alternator gauges as well as speedo, tach.

3. Different aspect ratio on tires...profile is too low, causing bent rims, even tire replacement of all 4 (because of X-drive). Bad pot holes are hard to detect in the spring with snow melting. I can give up a few cornering g's for this.

4. Better heat dissipation on my 850. Getting out of the car after in sport plus just to get the pops from the exhaust driving in the city,, the heat is very noticeable when getting out of the car. Even when it is extremely hot outside, still very evident. Makes me wonder how the electrics will ever hold up after 50K.

5. Oil dipstick....see #4....

Lease up in 5 months. Will I get another 8 series? NOPE

19” should go on even with the M-sport brakes?

What's the alternative? I've thought of what to get next, no idea. You have the Gran coupe but for my taste big engine convertible what else is there in the price range? 911? Maybe, very hard to get, not sure it will be as good as an everyday driver. Aston DB12, Ferrari Roma, Maserati Gran Cabrio all 100k more. Mercedes Sl gets bad reviews.

Panamera is quite a bit more expensive for a similarly equipped car. It will be great, but it does cost much more. I don't think it is as attractive, but it will drive great.

I just bought a M8 Gran Coupe and it is getting PPL and ceramic coating. In its price range, I didn't see anything that really compared. I've got a 2018 911 Turbo, so I scratched the Porsche itch thus that didn't drive my decision.

Alternatives for me, Lexus LC 500-naturally aspirated V-8, new style Corvette, Audi RS 7 ( torque monster). Even a muscle car of the late 60's, early 70's or in my opinion, a well replicated 427 Cobra. The Cobra would bring so many smiles. I only drive my M850 during good weather, and stored for the winter months in Minnesota.

For me, if I am paying that kind of money, I want something different in the interior, not something that is the same as a car costing half. BMW is at fault some, plastering M badges on cars that are not true M's.

Better dash/interior that reflects a higher end car. Sure you have to re-use parts to save money, but surely a better design could have been incorporated.

Better instrument panel gauges or at least other options/layouts. I mean, it’s digital, how hard is it to offer more readable and interesting screens / skins? How about a voltage meter ffs? In fact, if they couldn’t afford to do #1 above, then even just providing a bespoke 8 series dash would have been better. (M8 owners possibly excluded).

Fully defeatable ASD so that we can avoid fake sound

Better sub woofers, so that we can get good sound (BW owners excluded)

And for sure, proper round quad exhausts because one of the worst design elements on this car is that ugly parallelogram trim in the rear diffuser. It sure doesn’t match the fantastic engine. (Again, M8 owners excluded).

The wife's 2014 X5 LCI has 3.0 and outside of a bug with Android 13 it's now working flawlessly with Android 14. Those on iOS never had an issue since day 1.
I also have a Pixel 7 Pro, with UWB, but the 2024 M850 manual explicitly says "NFC" for the the key, not like the upgraded iDrive. This looks like one of the areas where the 8 series is not being updates along with other series. So you do have to walk up to the door key. Still great, but would rather leave it my pocket!
