Might have to give this a try. For the life of me cannot fathom why BMW slacks on the exhaust tips for the 8 series or any series for that matter.

Would be nice if someone came out with a non CF diffuser for the M850i. Maybe it could be as simple as buying a stock M850i valance and cutting it up a bit to fit some quad tips. Need to talk with my body shop bud to see what he thinks

This I think looks great, I really like the M8/diffuser look on the M850i.

I want to love this look every time I see this but what gets me is the openness underneath the quad tips. Just looks like something is missing.

This no doubt a more expensive mod for a similar effect to what you posted just removing the trim and adding new exhaust tips.

Take off the trim rings, they look to be held in by a few screws

then you’d need to take your car to a good muffler shop, hand them the tips and have them weld them on for you
Took it to my shop today and they said it was a no go without doing a muffler delete or different exhaust system. Not enough spacing even with trim delete. Know it's possible somehow some way and obviously this is the internet so info is bound to be missing, but their words, there's no way this is a straight mod. Trust the shop, have worked on some things for me in the past and pretty reputable around here. Would love more info fmzip if you got it.

3. Drill three new holes in the exhaust heat shield for the M8 diffuser to mount underneath the car (diffuser mounting holes are a inch off from 850 diffuser)
4. Have a good muffler shop modify stock muffler exhaust pipes so your tips will exit in the proper place within the diffuser
I had more photos of the install but my recent phone update erased the photos
any chance you have more info about how your shop modified the stock exhaust pipes? Was trying to go a different route but shop is saying can't be done unless do a muffler delete. I believe them, but also, perhaps don't believe them

Interesting that your shop said no-go. I will take it mine and see what they say.

Details on my post, this topic came up on this Facebook group.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/159538091567413/

The poster with the sunset orange car said this: So, after a few trial and errors here is what i did, so you guys don't have to waste time and money. I bought mine from Ebay and the sizes that were perfect for the stock diffuser are ID: 63mm and OD: 101mm. There will be some welding and cutting but any weld shop, muffler shop, mod shops should be able to do it. Also, make sure you remove the square tips before installing.

YIKES....when I see that pic of the behind the bumper.....I get the willies. I see there is ZERO room to ever bump or disturb that chunk of fragile.
Look at all the tiny clips and holes and slots and attachments that has.
Bump or jar or hit the bumper even slightly and I bet they break like saltine crackers. They all look very very delicate to me.
and you say a rear bumper is worth what? in $$$$
Note to self....don't even be less than ultra careful backing up to anything.
Looks great on the A side but ultra damageable on the B side.

Stopped by my shop today. They need to put it on the lift to take closer look. They said it looks tight but if someone else did it, they are confident they could as well.

I am going to order some tips and take a chance. Waiting on a price on an Alpina rear diffuser as well....

The only thing the muffler shop did was cut the four pipes off the muffler and removed the exhaust flaps. After that he bent four new pipes, welded the flaps back on and reattach pipes to the muffler.

Definitely interested to see what your shop comes up with. I trust my shop but the guy who was there I hadn't worked with him before. Was super adamant it could not be done without muffler delete even with the trim gone. Previously I worked with the owners so not hating on the shop could just be a know-it-all mechanic. Didn't have enough time to argue with him over it.

Okay so making me think the guy I was talking to just wasn't clever enough. I'm assuming the pipes he refitted were straight/circular to fit the new exhaust tips? Shape of the tips is the 2nd thing the shop guy kept getting hung up on with zero solutions.

3 shops later was able to get it done. Wasn't able to get any pics of it on the lift. Had to leave it with them and pick it up the next day bc of scheduling. Happy with the results. Some quick pics once I got her home. Shop said never again, one and done

Nice, that actually looks quite good.

Questions:
1. You went with Netami tips. What size and what source? Why did you choose them?
2. Is that the stock diffuser (without the trim piece)? It looks a bit different.
3. What did you do about the flaps?
4. Why did the shop say never again?
5. No sound difference, correct?

Love the quad exhaust, but somethings off… it just doesn't look good with stock diffuser.. especially when there are so many aggressive aftermarket diffusers for g14/g15

51-12-8-075-246 is listed as the rear valance PN for 2019-2022 840i and 850i coupes. 51-12-8-075-300 is listed as the PN for the Grand Coupe. The trim rings and the bumper PN's are also different. Curious if the coupe valance would bolt right up?

Shop had the Netami in stock and I didn't want carbon fiber nor to wait for some tips to come in

Yes it's the stock diffuser for the M850i

Flaps are still intact

Too much work for them. They don't plan on offering it again to my knowledge

Maybe slightly with sound on cold start but not super noticeable.

Edit: After a few days with her the cold start is definitely louder, way louder. No, didn't delete muffler. Looking at the new exhaust pipes they welded on they're quite a bit wider/thicker than the stock ones. Don't know if that has anything to do with it but the new growl is mean, I'll take it.

Got my tips installed today. Some pics during the install process, lots of cuts and tweaking. Dropped car off at 8:30AM was done at 3:30PM. Lots of work but no complaints from the installer.
