Hey wheelman, how much were the Akrapovic tips and did the overall exhaust sound change in anyway or was this strictly cosmetic?

Oh sorry, I see that you said $200 already.

Looks like you are saying that buying the more expensive RW Carbon diffuser (which fits the stock bumper?) would be cheaper than having to buy and install both a new M8 bumper and diffuser? Is that right?

Would round tips fit in the RW?

I’m not sure I like that center stop light tho.

Yes, definitely the cheaper option of the two. Round exhaust tips do fit but might need to do some customizing.

The tips were just cosmetic. But the resonator delete and exhaust flap control made it sound a lot better than stock.

Honestly the only true bitch I have with my 2020 M850i coupe. Why in the F they put that ugly grey bumper diffuser on a M850i is beyond any sense of logic. I could understand it on a M840i (no offense) but on a M Sport model just a WTF?

Sure, I'd love to lower the car as well with a good set of springs (plenty now to choose from) but that grey eyesore on my fully shadow lined and CF Tanzanite Blue coupe is just mind boggling. Not going to drop $10K to fix that until I actually buy it out in December and then decide to keep it over a potential 2024. If I do decide to keep it for the long haul I'll definitely remove the grey eyesore.

Funny how subjective that is. I actually am quite ok with the grey diffuser, not love, but ok. I like the grey contrast just like the grey side mirror caps.

What I dislike much more are the trapezoid exhaust tips/finishers. So boring and similar to many other cars including cars with fake ‘cosmetic’ exhausts. Common on Lexus, Acura, Volvo and more… The car already has quad tips, why not emphasize them instead of hiding them behind that ugly trapezoid. Last spring there were news reports that BMW was going to go that way with trapezoidal quad tips. Smart move IMO.

So I would rather change to quad tips (round). I would be fine if that also means changing the diffuser, but the quad tips would be my main objective.

The Dinan exhaust flap control didn't add anything imo sound wise. I did the resonator delete and CTS intake which gives it a pretty decent sound on cold start and in comfort mode. Hard to tell if the exhaust flap is a placebo effect or not but will say it's a cheap enough mod to find out.

Been super lazy with taking pics. Have mine lowered thanks to r33_RGSport months ago. The grey is a monstrosity across models and such an easy fix for them to do too. I wound up just keeping the stock diffuser and having it wrapped in black. Looks way better against the dravit grey and was cheap enough to justify doing it.

I like the gray on my wife's X3 M40I but thought it clashes with other colors too much... After owning it since 2019 and its our beater the gray gets scuffed and marked up easily. Not a fan of it much any longer.

Totally agree with everything you said. My M850i is white and the gray actually goes well with it IMHO.

Would be nice if someone came out with a non CF diffuser for the M850i. Maybe it could be as simple as buying a stock M850i valance and cutting it up a bit to fit some quad tips. Need to talk with my body shop bud to see what he thinks

This I think looks great, I really like the M8/diffuser look on the M850i.

Agreed on the trapezoid exhaust tips styling as to your point mundane cosmetic design used by many auto manufacturers even when there are not truly 4 exhaust pipes (2 in each trapezoid). The upside is either after market solution I go after if decided to truly keep the car for 6 years include the quad tip package and exhaust mods.

Irony is that was what my initial plan, i.e., to have it wrapped to match the BMW Shadowline. But then 2 years of COVID lockdown (in which my wife claims I've become a hermit &#128514 just flew by. So now the car's lease is up in December so weighing my options but pretty confident I'll just end up buying it out and go from there.

Saw on FB a few guys for 63mm/101mm tips by removing the trim rim on the diffuser. What do you guys think of the look?

Take off the trim rings, they look to be held in by a few screws

then you’d need to take your car to a good muffler shop, hand them the tips and have them weld them on for you

Saw an Alpina on the highway today, this might be an option. Different rear valance, appears to be the same bumper. Looking to see if I can find a PN for the diffuser....

What do you guys think of this look?
