They kinda will. Next generation GT shares its platform with the SL, although it will also feature styling differences as well as likely some sportier touches.

When our Ford Raptor got stolen we bought a little MB C43 'vert for the summer while we were waiting for the new Raptor. I also had a Stage 2 Roush Mustang. I loved the Mustang. It was a beast. But I also really liked the C43 for entirely different reasons. I got rid of both of them and bought the M8 Comp 'vert and I got the best of both worlds.
The power and brutality of the Mustang (when you want it) and the refinement and class of the C43. I don't know how anyone could criticize it. I get compliments on it all the time. I absolutely love it so who gives a rats ass what some writer thinks?

It's unfortunate that the world has gone to clickbait titles for everything.

Forgot to mention in my office reserved parking lot there was a Roush older generation (pre current body style) that I absolutely admired knowing what it was. Car people would recognize it vs the common pedestrian would likely think "oh an older Mustang". LOL as nope not in the same class whatsoever.

I grew up in a GM world as that is all my Dad and his brothers/kids would buy. Almost got disinherited (totally joking) for buying my 1st Lexus which was the antichrist move. My uncle has a barn (he's a Colorado farm boy just like my Dad) housing decades of my cousins muscle cars, etc. including my holy grail s 69 454 Stingray (not a muscle car but in the mix).

Fast forward to now and I'd take a Mustang over a Camero any day of the week. But I'm holding out to buy either the Stingray or the 67 Pontiac GTO from my cousin Charlie who owns both. Immaculate condition and just waiting to find a home with me. 👍

I saw this yesterday--- just cant fathom it at 200k (thats the msrp) and of course I and others can get it for less.

The front is fine but the rear is this bulbous round booty with no definition, of course IMHO LOL

But I do love me a hot V8 4.0 and the sound that comes with the M177/78

My friend got one in Starling Blue and I think its gorgeous. Finally a beautiful SL after 20+ years, I was never a fan of the hardtop design of the R230 or R231. In addition I think it finally has the right balance of comfort and sport, much more engaging than before. I don't have issue with the rear, I think overall its a pretty attractive design imo.

The price is definitely ridiculous, but I'd go for a 55 which is much much cheaper, and there will be discounts available just like they were/are for the 8er.

It does look good from the front LOL ... most pics I see are from that view but thats my opine of course. I still feel its missing something though. I would definitely need to tune it to get the power up to get closer the M8 performance numbers but thats simple.

BTW my current deal is 50k off due to triple net, conquest, and stairstep and I still wont pull the trigger.

I do like that tunnel painting in the background. That might be cool in my garage. Was there a price on it?

Just the msrp which was right over 200k ....

but I found this on the Benz forums and thought is rather ironic considering what we all are used with Porsche and other brands with price bumps- bet you never thought you would see a dealer adjust down for market ahhahahahahahhaha

I meant the painting. I'm just interested in buying that wall to put in my garage.

I almost didn't buy one because of the reviews and complaints about how uncomfortable the seats are. I can't drive almost any car more than 2 hours before my gluteus medius (hip muscles?) begin to ache so bad I have to stop. I drove the M8 12 hours + 6 hours (with a break of 3 hours to sleep).

1. It's not pretty enough - It is handsome and understated (I had an SL; my wife said it was very a much an "elegant lady", too her the M8 is a grown ass man with nothing to prove; like prime Mike Tyson in an Armani tux, casually smoking a cuban, or OG Sean Connery James Bond)

2. "It looks like a Mustang" - kinda, but OK, so what? See 1.

3. For the reviewer who said it's TOO powerful - I don't think I need to explain why that's beyond dumb and stupid;

4. Too sporty / not "comfortable" enough - LOL; "Mommy's gonna' make it all better, sweetie"; I mean, did I buy an M8 so it would be like an S63? Or did I buy it because I wanted a luxurious M car? AMG puts a big motor and harsh suspension on a luxury car and that car is better at the stated task? Again, dumb and stupid (S63 = Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.94 g; M8 = Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 1.03 g, the acres of leather are about equal and BMW does tech better than anyone [remember when all the reviewers hated iDrive]);

5. "I'm an audiophile and the stereo isn't good / sucks" - LOL; first of all, if you own an M8 you almost certainly are too old to hear the vast majority of information the stereo is conveying and if you don't know that, you're not an audiophile; second, if you were an audiophile you wouldn't compare a car stereo to a home stereo that should cost $30k + if "you're an audiophile"; third, play it at reference volumes (80-90 percent) with the top down and tell me again how bad it is; too get anything similar on the aftermarket in terms of quality, aesthetic, and integration would cost far more than $3,500.00; not enough bass = you love the sound of distortion.

I think there will be more to come, but I want to thank all of the complainers, and reviewers who are so indebted to Mercedes and Audi for driving down the price of the M8 - my wife has agreed that I won't have to share my second one with the family when I get it to replace my Cayenne GTS.

The only issue I have with the M8 is the price. I think it's way over priced imo. When you have that kind of money, there's better options.

Ok I'll take the bait. What? Comparable Porsche is much more. SL63 much more. I can't think of a convertible that's a better deal out the door then a m850 or m8

Shhh guys!! This is a Bmw forum ....why all the Mercs ? I've been a BM fanatic for 40 years and the last thing I want is people admiring Mercs.
I would never consider a Merc ... have had many Mercs in my family for years...
Th M8 is a different taste ... I think it's the best looking coupe...that's only my opinion and others are free to think otherwise...
Every car has its down sides ...Mercs too. The M8 is perfect but all we talk about is the depreciation of them . If you are my age and you buy for keeps....then you will not care about the loss in value.
Please note ! 3 year old pre LCI are still going for 75k- 85k. Lol ...is that bad?
M6's are still going for 30 to 40k ( UK ) and in the county where I live now....the prices are x2 higher.
All cars are money pits...that's just what they are. Houses are a solid buy if you are looking not to LOSE money. Young drivers have to consider to either buy a property to make money in the long run or keep treading on greasy steps with cars and not make ground with saving .... Matter of personal circumstances.
Keep this form BMW M8 / 8 series only please...

Just curious, what is your age and why do you buy for keeps because of it? Or are those unrelated?

With you on the house (appreciating asset) vs the depreciating lack of asset in a car. As for the Merc, P car, and other brands discussed on the forum I'm all for it. It's education for us car enthusiasts and frankly I enjoy it especially given many forum members have a stable of different brands or experience with owning them. I'll protect the innocent including the guy with a Tesla Plaid. In my opinion all input/experience is welcomed as this forum isn't about convincing people to by an 8-series but rather car enthusiasts sharing their knowledge.

I'm getting to be old as dirt with the irony I used to buy for keeps (7 to 13 years) but now I'm desiring a few different cars before full retirement and then it's back to buy for keeps with a sensible sedan.

I'm 58 ...had alot of cars ..The m8 will be my European tour car as I am now returning. My current daily is a Nissan Patrol y60 rd28t swb. Its a 1996 and I had it from new. Some people have a personal connection with motors ...I'm one . It's just me ..
As for the Mercs on BMW forum ... I agree with freedom to talk about other cars... I totally respects people talking about other brands . No harm intended to anyone...I'm just fanatic BMW . LOL
