I thought I'd chime in again on Porsche pricing. It really took me a while to get my head around it and so I thought I'd share . . .
We're all accustomed to what we get from BMW or Merc for $x. Then there's the Ferrari world at a whole different price point. I think that the 911 plays in the Ferrari world (F-car owners may take issue with that, I know), but its base prices are closer to the BMW world. What that means for 911 owners is that they can afford Ferrari handling or performance. But to afford it, they get a stripped-down car. Hang out on the 911 boards and you'll hear from a lot of them who buy absolutely base cars with almost no options. They're only interested in the pure driving experience and see leather upholstery and driving aids as distractions. No other car in the Ferrari world gives you that affordability option. I always tell new Porsche buyers not to think about the base price. Look at the total all-in price for a 911 spec'd with what you want and compare it to the total price of anything else you're cross-shopping. But if you get hung up thinking that a car with a base price of $115,000 should have a blind spot monitor (which is an extra-cost option), you'll never get through the ordering process. But for those who only want Ferrari handling in a reliable, German-engineered, $115,000 car -- yahoo!! Quick edit after a check of the 911 configurator - on a $232k Turbo S, god's gift to performance drivers, blind spot monitoring is a $1,060 option! Lol.

Jeez. I was too late to the party to know about those insane price jumps. And I thought the $4,000 on the M8 was a lot

The original M8 comp was over 142k base and didnt sell for many reasons including covid and supply/demand but then BMW dropped it to 130 and then 134... my 130k base is a 2023 and it was based on build date. (all base comp prices pre options of course).

Keywords "up to" .... They both said they have no idea about how Porsche could logistically do it either.

Yep 100% here to help but I cant predict allocations and pricing in 3 years as thats the 992.2 and who knows what will happen. But Ive bought 7 of my 9 from one store and from the same guy since 2006 and he builds them all. Irony is that my GTS was build by him for the GM of the store back in Feb of 2022 with a May delivery but the owner realized that he wanted a regular to have it so he took the car and I got it Now that very same GM is at the other store that I know well and we just kinda laugh because he is happy its in a proper owner's hands.

And these price hikes, along with long wait times, have resulted in an explosion in the used car market. Today, your car is probably worth at least what you paid for it 15 months ago.

Some time ago, Porsche announced that the next-gen 718 will be all electric. We'll probably see it by the end of 2024.

Is there a typical amount that dealers require you to put down for a deposit? When I was looking for my M8 I basically told all the dealers look put me on the list and if you get to me first with your allocation you get my money. I gave a $500 deposit to one dealer that I got back. I see people talking about $5,000 deposits for Porsches. I guess that maybe stops you from trying to be on too many dealers lists but that sure is a lot of money to tie up for 18 months.

I spent about an hour at the local Porsche dealer today talking to the sales guy that's been there 24 years. He knew my BMW CA and knew that he'd been promoted to sales manager. He put me on his allocation list for a 911. No ADM and no deposit fee. He said there are 2 ahead of me for a Carrera S and maybe it'd be next fall. Or if that was too soon for me he'd just leave me at the top of the list and keep checking in. I can speak from experience with my M8 that getting a car with summer tires in the fall sucks because it almost immediately goes into the garage for the winter.
