As posted upgrading to Android 14 and all is well. Full comfort access, etc. This is on a 2024 LCI 40i vs a 2024 M850i. My 2020 M850i is still stuck on Samsung Android only. My gut feeling is the same hardware in a 20204 M850i as they changed all the NFC hardware plus UWB in July of 2020.

UWB hardware came with Service Pack 21 (SP21) cars. Our 8 series run SP18 and therefore only have the NFC hardware.

I was hoping that at least back in July 2021 when when BMW added universal Android plus iOS for DK that at least my 2020 would support DK with my Pixel. Obviously that wasn't the case as they actually changed the NFC hardware and I'm stuck with NFC hardware that was built for Samsung only.

The UWB aka CCC 3.0 spec is a nice feature to have so glad it is at least on the wife's X5 LCI. I can live without DK on my M850i as when in a pinch I'll just use the NFC credit card.

Unfortunately 19” rims will not fit my 840d which has the M Sport Pro pack, including the M Sport brakes and calipers.

I’ve just checked the clearance between the outer edge of the front caliper and the inner rim of my 20" wheels - the plain shank of a 5mm drill bit fits but a 5.5mm one doesn’t. So, splitting the diference, that makes it a close 5.25mm or a fraction over 0.2”. So it looks like I’m stuck with the 20” rims.

As a compromise I can at least ditch the Bridgestone Potenza tyres. The car has done less than 6k miles and there’s plenty of life left in them yet, but I don’t want to go through another winter with them. At temperatures cosistently below around 10°C which, here in Scotland, is from now through to late March or early April, you feel and hear quite an alarming clonking judder at anywhere near full lock at very low speed, such as when you’re parking (several other posters have made similar comments). Plus there’s also that really intrusive low speed tyre roar.

I’ve read a good report the Continental Premium Contact 7 but would be very keen to receive alternative suggestions.

That's interesting. My M850 has the M Sport brakes. My dealer installed my 19" wheels with the snow tires. They said it was snug, but doable. I took it on a 4,200 mile 2 week road trip the next day, without incident.

As you say, interesting. The only thing that comes to mind is that my wheels (see attached) might have a thicker or deeper central channel than yours, thereby giving less clearance between the caliper and inner rim.
I've just double checked both front wheels and they're exactly as previously mentioned, so 1" smaller diameter wheels in the same style as mine would definitely not fit.
There's a very reputable wheel and tyre specialist not to far away from me so I'll call by and see what they say.
As a matter of interest do you have runflat or ordinary tyres? I recently had a huge sidewall bulge in one of my non-runflat tyres from hitting a pothole but fortunately the rim was undamaged. Whatever tyres I go for, I think I'll switch to runflats as I reckon the thicker sidewall would have survived.

My OEM wheels were the 20" 728M with Pirelli runflats. I had an M550 awhile back (They use the same tire and wheel sizes as the M850) and used an 8" square set of 664M wheels with Pirelli SottoZero 3 runflat snow tires. I bought the M850 2 days before leaving on a long trip. Fresh snow required me to put on snow tires, so I slapped on the 664Ms. The car was, shall we say, a bit squirrely. I believe BMW was selling two versions of winter tires for the M550 and M850 at one time: the 8" square set and the 8"/9" staggered set. I would not recommend the square set.

In general the 8ers need wider wheels, in my opinion. So last winter I put on a set of Michelin Alpin4 on the staggered 20" 728Ms and the car handles great. For summer tires I put Michelin PS4s on a new 9"/10.5" staggered set of wheels. The car now handles exceptionally well.

Not a BMW option yet but.....
One I haven't heard anyone say is the "new" blinker operated in screen camera lane change function. What a mouth full.
I am pretty sure BMW doesn't have this yet.
It's on Kia's and Hyundai's I believe. I've seen the feature of videos of these car or SUVs.
When you put on your turn signal on, the side camera pops up in the in-dash screen. Great for checking blind spots. Or to just see what's beside you before you turn or merge.
GREAT FEATURE imo.

It was sorta...so so ok.
Imo it's better in the screen.

I would just be happy if they put the European mirrors on there. Forget the technology. Those are all you need

Annoyingly they are stupidly expensive but they totally get rid of the blind spot. I've had them on some prior cars.

Oh you can get them for our cars. Just didn't look as thoroughly as I could have when I was doing it on my phone. Same price though. They are really nice. Just stupidly expensive

Well at that price for a piece of glass it better do something outstanding!
I've been in vehicles with that angled out part on the glass. Ya it was good, but not worth that stupid amount. Imo they see us coming.

Don’t hate me but ID8+ with curved display.

My 2021 ID starting to feel like an old iphone.

Glass controls for the m8, not sure why bmw only allows for this on the regular 8

Some trunk hooks would be nice, my m3 has left and right side hooks and this helps with carrying bags full of liquir and such

But overall very happy with this ride, not sure what I’d do when my lease is up, can’t find anything right now that I’d like to replace it with. Maybe I’ll pull a Vic55 and grab a two door
