Now that this thread has been resurrected, I’ll chime in. I was disappointed in the SL63. The big screen tacked onto the dash was out of place. The ride was too stiff and there was a good amount of tire and road noise. The power was certainly there and it handled pretty good for the weight. But to me, there is no question that the M8 is more comfortable and quiet while meeting or exceeding the power…for a lot less $.

I like my wife’s previous gen SL better than than the new one.

I don't like ipad type center stacks either but in the SL's defense, it does adjust/tilt electronically, and the instrument's display panel is housed in a proper binnacle. I looked at a new '22 55 that just arrived at my local MB dealer, and it had orange peel on both sides quite badly (you can read more about it and see my pics on mbworld's R232 forum). I have been critical of the new SL as from the A-pillar back its a 911 cab and MB made no attempt to hide it. From the A-pillar forward is pure MB, but it's an awkward approach and looks a bit Frankenstein'ish from certain angles. The fact there's already $10k in conquest speaks volumes. The M8 is also a larger car, and the SL's interior feels much more 911'ish in size/feel. MB is also getting hammered in the latest JD power dependability #'s well below BMW (BMW was able to remain in the top 50% albeit barely just one notch above). MB will get very few 911 drivers to switch, and they've pissed off previous customers who liked the former generation's larger and statelier look/feel. The SL 63 is producing QM and 0-60 on par with the more conservative M8 published data but the price of admission is far too steep for this car. There are however two things I'd like BMW to adopt from the SL, the meaty and perforated D shaped steering wheel, and the excellent MB massage seats.

I sat in one and even though they claimed to
Make it bigger I couldn’t fit. Too tall. Put seat all the way back to fit my legs and the back rest goes vertical.

I liked the interior, didn’t get a chance to drive it but seems way overpriced. Concur M8 much better

Crazy how I’ve never felt cramped in any 911 I’ve ever owned but this new SL same as old SL’s very tight

Sadly that 10k will conquest my desires. I stand by my thoughts on the car just not knowing what its trying to be/do.

Exactly. What is it trying to be. Lots of automakers come out stating their goal to make a 911 competitor and then deliver something completely different and not a 911 competitor at all

I wrote this in another thread---

I guess if there was a stupendous fire sale I might try it but thats just not going to happen IMHO.

If something doesnt know what its going to be or compete with, it better be priced correctly at the least.

The SL has rear end issues along with an identity crisis as its too heavy to be a true performer yet not elegant enough to gather its current ask ---IMHO

But there is more money than that as my good friend who is the GM at a local store also has earned stair step money on the car (15k) and is willing give me a 198k car for a 146k and I still cant see myself doing it. He will do triple net at 12% off (all his money) plus the 10k plus the 15k and some other side discounts thats gets over 51k.

I can walk into a BMW center and get 10%, if not more, off a vert and that is the better car IMHO but I have a coupe.

I just fear that this car is not good enough even with the huge discounts.

It actually doesnt because the MF is .00250 and the residual is shit... I mean its all relative but its over 2000 pre tax.

And while Ill continue to stand behind my thoughts that the SL is just not a car that can identify well in a segment... these 911 price bumps continue to make other options possibly more enticing albeit less of driving experience:

Its crazy than just 10 months ago my 2022 GTS base msrp was 136k and now its almost 152k with no material changes at all. My 173k all in car is now over 188k with the same build. Im slightly smiling LOL.

Sadly its what the market will bear and unless Porsche over produces they will get these sales and dealers will still hold ADM's. Standard msrp to invoice is 11% and then holdback is a percentage of the msrp based on the actual car itself.

And the now the used market just got a kick up too... which is good for my GTS but sad for a probably buyer.

Porsche is a mofo when it comes to higher production value maintaining cars (992s).

Obviously Ferrari and a few other choice brands hold value too but its a rounding error in units sold compared to P cars.

That death, it is a coming--- Im satisfied with my V10 for now but the R8 is dead too.

I think a nice Evo AWD Huracan is a reasonable option too ...

Yeah I had a Huracan for about a year and half but wasn't in love mind you it wasn't the LP640 sooooo there is that. But also the doors don't go up its not a real lambo....
