BMW Car service- Loaner car policy?
Hi, I am quickly reaching the 15000km mark, and was wondering what the loaner car policy is?
I did my first service at 7000km, and they asked if I would like a loaner car, but this time, they asked if they can drop me home or work? I would rather a loaner car (doesn't really matter what car) because I live fairly far from the dealer, and would be a hassle all day. I don't want to make a complaint before I understand the policy (this is my first new car).. Should I demand a loaner? Or do I have to pay for it? am I crazy for expecting such luxuries with a lowly 3-series

Don't quote me, but I always assumed this was @ Dealer Discretion, some dealers don't even offer loaners?

I've always had near-new loaners from dealers, sometimes you may need to book a week or so out. Never been a problem at VW, MINI or BMW. You should not be charged.

Don't say you don't want a lift.
Just ask them when a loan car is available. With ample lead time, you should be able to secure one. Or, I have been able to secure taxis to and from work at 'dealer's expense'.

Most Sydney dealers will charge you, and you need to book 2-3 weeks in advance.
You could always speak to your sales guy, and see if they can sneak you into a car for a few hours. |

MINI have been similarly generous with MINI/BMW 1 series loan cars with our Countryman. They have even dropped off a loan car to the house and taken the MINI away. Maybe we do get some more service here for the extra dollars we pay in NZ!

Same story as kash & david328 here...
when booking your service, say you'd like to book in when the next loan car is available. If you want to get picky you can choose a loaner as well. Back in the E90 times I specifically requested no 4cylinder petrols cause the e90 320i was s-l-o-w lol |

I was just worried because my sales guy (great guy) quit a few weeks ago, and I dont feel like asking other people there for favours.. guess ill change my booking and move it to when I can get a loaner..
also just a side question: how old can your car be until you start to feel bad about asking for loaners (should I be feeling bad about this at all? or am i being overly sensitive?)

Just tell them your sales guy promised to look after you with loan cars when your car is being serviced. Hopefully they will oblige. However, a loan car may not be a 'loaner' as such. We never really know what markup the dealer puts on their service work for which you have to pay. At least with warranty repairs, it's clear. For any non warranty work, consider an indie if you have to pay, but get a quote from both places.

BTW - After reading this, I now get an idea as to why dealers in SF bay charge so much in labor. All of them have an entire fleet of loaner cars and this has never been an issue here. |

Dealer's discretion in California maybe, here you just ask for one. You may get a later booking date, that's it. And no, you don't need to be chummy with a sales guy (thank f $@# for that).

The dealers do run out of cars and it is usually on a first booked first get basis (with the discretionary 'VIP' customers get one regardless)..
You can always rebook when there is one available.. I've never not had one, often meaning something from the sales/demo fleet... In the process I think I have driven just about every BMW that there is..

I had to take my 335i in to get a piece of trim replaced (had a very very small scratch from manufacture, but I could see it and I think the car should be perfect from new).
My dealer gave me a 2012 650i Gran Coupe M Sport as a loaner. I don't recall ever been given a loaner that costs NZD$235,000 (as spec'ed) before!

It was actually really interesting. Other than the fact the dash was completely covered in leather, the switch gear and plastic components are of the same quality as the F30. In fact, I'd go so far as to say the F30 is actually a nicer place to be. Surprising for a car that costs considerably more.

Yeah, you can argue the 4.4L V8 will add a bit of cost, and the thing is HUGE so that probably means it's consumes more materials to produce. But when you start to really drill down on the car, and I mean opening the compartments, etc you see the same types of plastic mouldings with less than perfect finishing. I didn't think any of the switch gear felt better than the F30. The steering wheel is almost identical to the F30 M Sport one -- and that does feel good of course.

I got a loan car for a couple of days and just my luck there is a crack on the windshield that I didn't notice when I took the loan car back. Could it have cracked in the sun at the dealership after I had given it back.
Now gotta pay the excess but they were saying something about if the cost to replace the windscreen is higher they will get back to me about this? Maybe I misunderstood (whether they are asking i fund the full cost if windscreen replacement costs more than excess) and will wait for their call next week to clarify but in the meantime any advice? They also said the excess is $1000 if under 26 which I am not but this figure i think was stated on the loan car page I signed which may signal they stated a higher excess than should be.... |
