Nice one Jeff. Don't worry, there are no cross-posting police over here.

Normally they are quite skittish, however this one is young, as you can see by the brown feathers. He/she has been perched on a fence by a lightly used road the past week or so and doesn't get spooked if you stay in the car (there was better light on this day).

I was walking home from my neighborhood Starbucks this week and spotted an older Dodge pickup parked on the street. I've always admired the hood ornaments that adorned many cars of the past.

Another from the same night as the last pic. Mt Lemmon outside Tucson. This was on a night hike in search of the Sycamore Resevoir.

I feel like I'm "cheating" when I use my a9, and it's supposed to get even better, with the latest firmware update. Can't wait...

You two need to quit with the killer shots. I have more gear than I need and you're tempting me to buy more. Is the a9 really that good? Dump everything with a Canon label and move into the 21st century? (Not that I'm discounting the fact that both of you are stellar photographers.)

All I can say is, "I feel like I'm cheating". It's that much better. That said, if you don't need killer AF, I think that the Canon and Nikon alternatives do a fantastic job. For someone just starting, then I'd say to start with Sony. If you've got 5-figures invested in Canon or Nikon, then you don't need to move, UNLESS super autofocus is required. Then it's a game changer.

Look at this eagle shot my Canon-friend, Mike Reardon, took with a Sony RX-10:

https://flic.kr/p/QKEBQM

The one-inch sensor isn't the cat's meow in low light, or for large prints, but the AF system is pretty amazing. That's a $1700 system!!

Oh, I've been resisting the temptation to grab an RX-10 IV. Ed's work with it has been astounding. I just wish I could scrape up the determination to box up and sell some of my existing gear. But I have this intense aversion to to selling stuff online.

I have the same aversion. I am lucky that my local brick and mortars buy used gear. Even though I take a bath on it, it's hassle free and fast, same reason I sell my used cars to CarMax. I have heard people are happy selling to B&H. Same deal, you lose a little, but at least you know you will get paid (or store credit).
