V8 question: oil burning?

I’ve largely been relying on the computer to tell me if there are any oil level issues.

However, with the V8 having a history of oil burning in prior years, am I making a mistake here?

Have you guys been doing dipstick checks from time to time and determining that the computer is missing low oil levels? Just want to know, as I’ve had my car for 6 months and have driven about 4-5k miles on it without really checking anything.

My wife's car is a 2.0 diesel and that also burns oil. Its normal most if the time for that as bmw design the engines in that way . Topping up keeps oils fresh too . However , if its recently happening and its a new thing then have it checked .

Dipstick? The N63TU3 is commonly not a big oil burner, as opposed to the older generations of the N63. That said, it's always smart to check your oil level using iDrive.

Thanks, I just want to make sure I’m not being kinda irresponsible by not doing a dipstick check. I do use iDrive from time to time to check the oil status, I just want to have an idea how reliable that is

Man I have b47 2L diesel in my f36 2016… after 14000km and 10 month 0-0.1L oil loss only… I have 200k km on it too, so no, b47 does not burn oil if it is healthy!

Between my two F90s and current M850 I have a combined 79,000 miles. I have not added, nor been asked by the car, to add any oil.

My previous generation 2014 550 and 2018 M550 went about 80,000 miles. I put a couple of quarts in the 550, none in the M550.
