Should the seat belt tighten when you click it in?

Why do I feel my M5 did this....but my M8 does not? Should it automatically tighten once you put it on?

The seatbelts on my 6 snug up when you start to drive away, not when you click them.

My M8 doesn’t do this. Not set? Not sure.

My wife’s X6M does it and it drives me crazy

My 2023 M850 doesn't do this, I asked my service advisor and the answer was no.

Now you made me wonder as well, I didn’t even know it’s a feature we have or should have… could be this feature only introduced for LCI models which is very unlikely… could be some settinfs in idrive? Would be great to hear from more people

I’ve just read that it’s an option in EU while standard in US

Good question mine was a late/early 22 build that took almost 12 months during Covid, I refused to remove anything but wireless charging from my build. I wonder if during that time frame they took small things out on many of them.

You are 100 percent sure you have it? Literally you are the only person who posted here who has it…they would not remove a safety feature due to COVID.

I agree, that is strange for sure. This was implemented back I think in 2018 or 19 for all BMW models forward. All of my recent and current models do this once I drive off the slack is removed. I don't have a way to go test it right now but it is one thing the wife hates about the BMW's she thinks its annoying and re slacks once it adjust when we pull away. I will say however the X3 is way more noticeable and pulls much harder just like the X5 did.

From what I see below I wonder if you say turn off the driver alertness or other function if you turn it off as well???

Dynamic Safety is the BMW ConnectedDrive preventive passenger protection system. The system is activated after the engine is started and the front seat belts are automatically slightly tensioned when the car starts moving. In a critical driving situation such as emergency braking, or if the vehicle demonstrates excessive understeer or oversteer, the front seat belts are pre-tensioned, the side windows and sun roof (if fitted) are closed and the passenger seat backrest is returned to the upright position (if fitted with electric seats). Reduced belt tensioning provides increased driving comfort. If a crash is unavoidable, the system brakes the car, without requiring intervention by the driver, until the vehicle reaches a standstill. This helps reduce the likelihood of a second or subsequent collision, and or reduces the effects thereof - or in the best case scenario could prevent a further collision altogether. The Attentiveness Assistant also recognizes if the driver is displaying signs of increasing inattentiveness or tiredness. This system analyses the steering response and reacts to irregular driving behavior by issuing a message in the Control Display suggesting that the driver should take a break and emitting an acoustic signal.

It does look like for standard features the 8 series does not come with "Dynamic Safety" which is the package for the seat belt hug. Damn now I really want to pay attention when I get home and go for a drive.

I use a seat belt stop tensioner. I hate the pull on my shoulder deal.
Mine do not tighten upon driving away and I'm glad. I don't need a seatbelt babysitter.

It's weird how/when this feature is implemented. My 2013 f06 did NOT have this feature...but my 2014 F15 & 2015 F06 does. The seat belt will do a little hug then release tension as you start to drive off.

It's called the: Reversible electromotive automatic reel, left and right.

My 2020 M850i tightens the seatbelt once moving (5 to 8MPH). Oddly the wife's new X5 LCI does it immediately when either selecting reverse or drive with the transmission.

I can confirm the seatbelt on my UK spec 840 definitely tightens like a boa constrictor if the car thinks it is about to have a collision!!

Yes, forgot about that. Get the frontal collision warning (red car outline pops up in the HUD) and it tightens even more than the "snug" at the initial 5 to 8MPH initial setting.

I use to have this feature on my 7 series but not on the M850GC. The way it worked is as soon as you start driving the seatbelt would tighten.
