Display Key Question

Does the M850i Xdrive come with a display key or just the normal key fobs?

MRacer24SD I received a display key, regular key and credit card key for my 2019 delivery. My understanding is that for 2020 and beyond there are no more display keys.

Same here, 2019 M850i and we got one display key, one key fob, and a digital key card.

I just received my 2020 m850i GC and asked specifically about the key. BMW has discontinued them for 2020 models, but you can still purchase it on Amazon or bimmertech and then have it coded for your car, although from everything I have read... it's not worth it. The digital card key and the phone really gets the job done. I get my car nice and cool before I leave to work my activating the climate controls on my phone. Very well done BMW!

I must agree with Locopeds, the display key is pretty pointless.

The phone app can do more, I still haven't taken the protective tape off of mine.

Yes, I confirmed that as well during the delivery of my 2020 M850i couple last December. My theory is they included them in the 2019s as they were the top of the 8-series food chain at the time. In 2020 that is now the M8/M8C (and GC variants) which still come with the Display key.

The only function I'm aware of that the Display Key has the ConnectedDrive app cannot is the out of the car parking feature. That said even if my 2020 came with the Display Key I would not carry that behemoth around in my pocket on the outside chance I'd use that feature. I actually was ecstatic when my dealer handed me two normal key fobs on delivery.

Despite the 7 series having the car parking feature, I'm not sure I've seen any UK 8 series vehicles with the feature.

Do USA 8 series cars come with it?

If you have not given your glove box a thorough once over you may be surprised to find your NFC Digital Key card in it. I didn't think I received one on delivery as it wasn't handed over along with the key fobs, etc. However, I read on another similar thread that a fellow 8-er found theirs in the glove box. Low and behold I checked and found mine. They are black, thin as a credit card and stealthy inside the glove box so definitely worth a shot to check.

I'm the same as MSM on this one. Mine does not have the park feature or the remote engine start. I only have 4 screens on mine, youtube videos show more on the US version.

the 7 series has remote parking, the 8 does not.

the 8 series display key has some cool features that the phone app doesn't, especially for operating the convertible; however, it's mostly a toy to brag and compare.

side note: Teslas have display keys, so bmw wanted to do the same thing.

Interesting as I thought the 2019 M850i's iDrive 7 broke new ground with the parking reverse assist (it will back up the way you found yourself into the parking position) that the 7-series did not have. I could have got that wrong but figured with that new "wiz bang" feature it would have included the remote parking as well.

it has that feature, and the display technically has it, but it's been coded off.

I don't know if r33_RGSport can "reactivate" it. but I think it's permanently disabled like the top speed limiter.

My 19 M850 came with one Display, one regular, two metal keys and one key card (which my servicing dealer ordered for me at nc as the selling dealer did not provide it). I have not used the display key one time yet b/c it's so big.

It may be code-able, but I need a car to play around with it.
But, I think there is a reason that BMW removes it. Maybe there is a flaw in the software or design.

I had a 2019 and received all theee. But the display key is paperweight. Not much use but it is very cool. I have never used it, could not find where it was when I sold the car 2 months after getting it and now I have found it, but cannot use it with my i8.
