The majority of people wouldn't have electric cars for decades. Even with California-type restrictions. They will have more than they have now, but a far cry from "most cars would be EV".

Peak demand spike is due to warm temps in the summer and people, not just houses, running A/C to keep it cool. Think wal mart. Think warehouses. Think every single industrial building. This is an incredible amount of energy being used to keep everything cool. I would doubt that the peak demand spike would change, if anything, it'll be more level. There'll be people plugging in EVs as they get home, but there will be businesses shutting down at use going down at the same time, even if temps are remaining up there for a few more hours. You also need to consider that people are generally not going to need to "fully charge" their EV every day. Most people living in a city going to a job are going to live close enough that they aren't needing to put 300 miles of charge on in one night. For every one that does, probably hundreds do not, if not more.

There is way too much "sky falling"...

Just so y'all are aware, there're two types of solar power generation: Photovoltaic (solar panels -> power) and solar thermal (big mirrors superheat a central 'power' tower).

Photovoltaic plants don't work at night. Solar thermal plants store thermal energy in big 'heat' batteries (really just steam or molten glass) over the course of the day. Then, when the sun goes down, the plant stops using its mirrors and starts using its ultra-hot medium to continue to run the boiler for the turbine.

Nights can be windy.
Water and wave generation doesn't stop when the sun goes down.
Some solar still works with no sun.

It's not as infeasible as you'd believe to be making renewable power 24 hours a day. Power that supports A/C during the day and power that charges your EV one night a week. (Seriously, why is everyone assuming that every EV owner needs to charge every night?)

Also, on the 'bike' convo, I'd bet a bunch of people hop over to electronic-assisted (EV lol) bikes for short trips and tasks. Much easier to travel much further on a bike. Check out Super73.com if you're bored.

They ban the sale of "New" cars. Just like the gun bans people will find work around. Ie dealer titles a new car and then sell it as "used"

the state is not ready for all electric. Not even close.

However using a bicycle as a form of transportation when running errands is an inefficient use of time. Are you following the conversation here?

Just pay someone to bicycle and run your errands for you, problem solved .

So, a bunch of huge buildings that run A/C 24-7?

Meanwhile the US is supposedly shutting down domestic oil channels and increasing reliance on foreign oils. Maybe the government is playing the long game of preserving nonrenewable resources...which would work only if there were any domestic company left to do the job when the time comes.

Maybe eventually, but the renewable technology is just not there. Dam causes significant sedimentation and subsequent irreversible damage to local ecosystems so that's out, wind mill blades are near impossible to recycle (very costly as well), solar just isn't able to cope with the changing climates as reliable power source.

I would say eFuel is a better investment and much more environmentally friendly at this point.

This guy gives some nice insight to the renewable energy industry.

There are several start-ups that are going to recycle blades. In general, you gotta chop them up and use them to make FGRP, similar to CFRP type structures. All of this worrying while the world is moving on.

Whatabout Nuts!

Going to? Currently the blades end up in the landfill, or are burnt as fuel

I don't think it's completely ready for all electric either. However:
  • It's only a ban on NEW sales
  • It will force infrastructure changes with a ticking clock motivator
  • Dealers will have to take a depreciation hit by incorrectly titling then used (unless we still have the shortages in 2035 we have today
  • It's 13 years away.
  • It lines up with the ICE ban by the EU
  • We keep saying "we're not ready", but it's been years since people have been saying the ICE ban is coming. We could have had 20+ years to be ready, now we "only" have 13. We ignored the signs because it was too difficult to pay heed.
  • The 2035 date isn't saying we are going to be ready by that date, but that we must. It's lighting a fire under our asses.

Blades are literally a grain of sand in the endless beaches of trash we generate. Why are we fixated on recycling something that makes renewable energy?

People fixated on renewable energy also seem to demand everything be recyclable. Why would something that makes renewable energy be exempt from this goal?

skip to 5:40 in the video, it's going to be an 1/8th of the plastic waste per year.

Creating waste to save the planet and the air is kind of, wasteful. And the solution to get rid of that waste? burn it.

I'd ride my bike a hell of a lot more and well over 5 miles if I lived in places like many parts of the Nordics where most major metros are flat as hell, the temps routinely below 70, and winds and humidity very mild. Where I live in Kansas City is super hilly, windy, and spring/summer temps in the mid-70s to 90s and humid. I'd be sweating big time with just a 10 minute ride if I'm wearing normal clothes like these people.

I also find it interesting and hilarious that we in the US are so focused on bike helmets, yet in Europe, they hardly wear them, especially when commuting.

Kansas City humid? Ha, try living in the DC Metro area where we're surrounded by bodies of water and have the Atlantic Ocean nearby. But then again, the Floridians would say the same to us DMV'ers.

As to Europeans and bicycles, that's because they have better licensing requirements than the joke of the system we have here in the states for cars.
Also, bicycles AND motorcycles are more integrated into their societies.
