Oil Change Specs

Just got quoted $250 + tax for an oil change on my M8 from my local dealer... definitely not paying that much, will just do myself, so just wanted to ensure what im working with.

Can anyone confirm the following?

Type of Oil: 0W-30
Amount: From what I've heard should be about 11-12 bottles worth?

Plan on getting this kit from ECS: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...50-slash-12kt/

Any help is appreciated!

You were smart to get a quote on an oil change. I made that mistake
by not getting the price prior to the oil change (only). The stealer charged me over $320.00 for the oil change on a N63 (M850). I would suggest you replace the oil with full synthetic (European) oil. This would answer any questions regarding any (hopefully no) engine problems occurrence on the S63 engine with the warranty.

Probably can't hurt to have receipts for genuine BMW oil if you have a warranty claim, but it's not required. That's pretty expensive oil. Just get an oil that meets the spec for your engine - LL01 or whatever it is. Your manual will identify the approved oil viscosities. I put Castrol European 5W-40 in my N63TU because it meets LL01 and costs about $35 for a 5-gallon jug. I'd also find out exactly how much oil you are supposed to use. I would think that is readily available info. But if not, I can look it up.

I like to do my own oil changes also. Did you get this done? What did you end up using? Thanks

Owners manual and iDrive's owners manual will reveal the viscosity required. Also check if the owners manual gives you fluid capacities for the various reservoirs. My N63TU engines take approx 10 quarts...I usually buy two 5 quart jugs of Euro oil from Walmart...which is usually around $25 a jug depending on if they are on sale or not.

You can see example of info about oil viscosity in the owners manual embedded in iDrive on my old 2013 650ixGC which has the old CIC version of iDrive...but this should also be in your newer version of iDrive, too.

Oil capacity appears to be 10 liters (which is approx 10.5 quarts):

QSilver7 Thanks so much for the quick reply. Any specs or diagrams on the filter removal?

Qsilver7, thanks so much. I'm a newbie picked up my 8 series last Friday, so one last question. I had a Range Rover that had an extractor tube that went to the bottom of the pan that was in the Oil Filler. I see that my 2020 840i does not have a dipstick or extractor tube. Has anyone had success sucking the oil out with an extractor rather than drain plug? Once again, thanks

If you don't have a dip stick...then I don't think suction tools are going to work. There' no direct path to the oil pan to suction out the oil.
