Active Sound Design Info

I was curious because there's always speculation on how ASD works (piped in/artificial/etc). Well here it is straight from the source.

Yes, I was looking for some other diagnostic info on the m850 and happened to run across it in the result. The illustration seems to imply the location on the 840i but it's probably similar on the 850.

May be mistaken on this one. The one in my original post seemed to be X5 related. This is the processor for our vehicles and 7-series:

So I pulled Fuse 218 (ASD) and Fuse 203 (Exhaust flaps - after being open) and I feel the car sounds more natural, although my neighbors are probably going to want to choke me out with cold starts at 7am with five feet of space behind my car in the garage.

It may be placebo but I feel that downshifts are less exaggerated and there's less of a drone at cruising speed. Pops/burbles are still present.

Also no CELs after two drives. It's probably logged and viewable with ISTA though.

It does. Same fuse number.

Have been meaning to give the exhaust flaps fuse a go but now armed with your data on ASD that as well. Can you remind me where the fuse box is in the M850i trunk and how to access it?

There’s a cargo net on the right side with a panel that has a recess so you can pull it out. Fuse box is behind there with a nice paper that tells you the fuse numbers and locations.

I have the 2023 M8 Comp GC. I pulled F218 and can still hear the ASD in Sport+. I have the Bowers & Wilkins setup as well as the M Performance Exhaust axel back. There are no valves and it has the dummy plugs. Is there a different fuse to pull?

You can also code out the ASD with bimmer code which is a cleaner solution IMO.

The ASD is audio system related on the M850, I’m not aware of any physical components in or around the exhaust (I may be wrong but I don’t think so).
I removed it as the very first I did on deliver of my car. I find the whole thing just awful. I want to hear noise that the actual car makes, not artificially generated nonsense!
A friend of mine with an M5 came over and begged me to do the same for him - vast improvement.
