First BMW 8 Series Convertible Rolls Off The Line in Dingolfing
BIMMERPOST NEWS First BMW 8 Series Convertible Rolls Off The Line in Dingolfing November 7, 2018. Dingolfing. Four months after production of the new BMW 8 Series Coupé ramped up in Dingolfing, the BMW 8 Series family is joined by another new addition from Lower Bavaria. Earlier this week, BMW Group Plant Dingolfing began series production of the new BMW 8 Series Convertible, which will be built alongside BMW 5 Series and 7 Series variants on a single assembly line. The BMW Group has invested a total amount in the low three-digit-million-euro range in the new model family at the site in Lower Bavaria, strengthening Dingolfing’s role as the lead plant for the upper luxury-class segment. Newly developed textile soft top The driver and passengers on board the new BMW 8 Series Convertible are protected from the elements by a classical soft-top. The multi-layered roof stands out with its weight-minimising design and superb acoustic insulation. The new BMW 8 Series Convertible comes with a black soft-top as standard, with an Anthracite Silver effect variant available as an option. The soft-top opens and closes fully automatically. 15 seconds is all it takes.

I'd rent one for the weekend, but don't think I'd buy it.

That's what they all say, until it's time to give it back.

Looks ok, but I'd always be nervous buying the first off the production line - possible teething problems etc...

Love the blue! Diesels though!! I love it. Owning a convertible is just great.... and another car for daily driving is even better!

I've had M-B, BMW and Mini within first month of production and ALL have been great - I personally think it is a bit of a myth waiting for production to settle down. My 840d is in production now and I'm sure it will be perfect. 6 and 8 cylinder diesels are wonderful and suit real World driving far more than high revving petrols. Even on the autobahn I've not been found wanting at 230-250kph (140-150mph). Europe is different to NA, we even like our cars coloured grey without chrome!

I personally wish they had kept the V8 diesel and I also wonder if it might be harder for them to meet emissions making so much power from only 3 litres, it might prove to be easier to go back to a 4.0 to 4.5l V8 and make less power per litre to improve emissions.
