2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28 laps the 'Ring in 7:37.47

GM has released a video of the Camaro Z/28 lapping the 'Ring. It's official time? 7:37.47. That's ~ 4 seconds faster than its more powerful brethren the ZL1. It's faster than the Lexus LFA and Porsche 911 Carrera S with the PDK.

faster than the lfa? the lfa does it in 7:14. you could argue that its the nurburgring edition that can achieve that time but most cars that attempt a best lap at the ring are equipped to do so.

Woopee the 100% road legal Radical RXC will most likely obliterate the Ring lap time for fastest road legal car. Here's a review http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/...t-drive-review

My bad. The 7:38 time I saw was done by sport auto, not by a factory driver.

It's the difference in the stock LFA and the Nurburgring model. The point is that the Z28 is impressive, not that the LFA is weak, I think we've beaten that one to death already.

This time was done in the rain. So the z 28 dry time will be a lot faster

He was sideways for a good 2 minutes of that lap. He was losing traction out front and you could hear the traction control cut in repeatedly. That car could probably hit low 7:30's-high 7:20's on a dry lap.

Yeah, they believe they left a solid 6 sec on the track, due to the damp conditions.

I would say there's even a chance for it to be lower then 7:20.

GM said in their statement if it was fully dry it would be a couple of seconds faster.

$65k though? I'd rather save 10 grand and have a new Vette!

Very impressive, and I love that the general put such a track focused car into production.

Very fast indeed. I think the fact that it had 305mm Pirelli Trofeo Rs (ALL AROUND!!) helps, and also the new carbon ceramic brakes. Definitely will be faster in the dry! Very impressive considering the 3800 lb curb weight, but I wonder how long those track rubbers will last on public roads, especially with average joes driving in the wet.

Wrong. The Z28 is 300lbs lighter then the ZL1. The ZL1 weighs around 4150 putting the Z28 at around 3850.

"American cars suck, have you seen the interiors?"

Now that we have the euro fanboy trashing out of the way, can we discuss how blazing fast this time is? Wow.

I don't care how fast they are... I had rented a Camaro SS for a week on a vacation and while it was a fun car, I would never own one because they are really impractical for their size and weight and interior design, functionality, and feel are horrible. I could never drive it daily and be happy. For weekend cars, there are better options out there. Hell, I would rather own a used C6 over a new Camaro. As for Z28, while it is a fast car, used C6 Z06 or even a new C7 will be a better option. Hell, C7 put down over 500whp with just a small cam and headers already.
