15,000 rpm!

is it strange to anyone else that the engines inspired from CART and F1 and NASCAR aren't making it to the street? Years back with the introduction of the NSX then the S2000, it looked like high revving engines would be the future. Now, its all about displacement or boost. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just weird.

I agree with this guy. My '05 ZX6R has a 15,500 RPM powerband and it's hell to ride around on the street. You have to be above 7k RPM at any given moment to have even a speckling of power, and if you want to gun it you really need to be above 10k. When a good majority of street driving has to do with stop-and-go traffic, there are few times where 10-15k can/will be used. This also requires more frequent engine management/tuning. The engines that rev this high have a shorter life span.

In a different breath, I'd also say that high revving engines have and are making there way into the street. Look at the new M3. Who would have thought a V8 would rev that high?

and to stay on topic, i think NA high revving engines are the best sounds on earth, especially if it comes from the boys at maranello

yeah, the bottom line is that a motor that makes all its power/torque above 10,000rpm, and makes nearly zero power/torque below 10,000rpm is completely impractical for the street.

Not exactly. You, correction, I would expect that if Honda/Ford/BMW is going to dump millions into engine development for a race series, they'd want to get something out of it. If I were a big automotive company, I would want my lessons learned on track to transfer to the products I sell.

Those honda engines made it look like the door was opening to a new wave of street engines that more closely resembled their racing siblings. The "next big thing" fizzled.

The E30 is a true drivers car and no matter what I want to do (like almost selling it for an '02 E39 M5 ) I can never get rid of it.

/\ Very nice! I get compliments on this car all the time, practically as much as my bike (which is 15k rpm to stay on topic, haha) which really shocks me. Eventually will get a much bigger engines stuffed in up front and toast e92 335i's left and right Right now they just haul off at the stoplight and leave me
