But the rear-engine is a hallmark of the 911... that's like trying to take away a V8 from a muscle car.

As much as it is outdated engineering, I couldn't imagine Porsche not making a rear-engined car. Besides, you still have the option of the Cayman, or the Carrera GT if you have the money, if you wish. As an aside, the 997 GT3 RSR won the swept the 2008 ALMS championships in team, driver, and manufacturer.

As for the 30 button interior, only the crew from the Enterprise would be able to handle it

Porsche does well when it doesn't face serious competition in production car classes these days.

In their glory days of 70's and 80's with the 911, 930, and 956 / 962....Porsche was on top of their game and the 911 was top dog.

The rear engine platform is not a world beater in any class that another manufacturer chooses to invest.

But the F430 GT dominated the show last year. It will get interesting when Corvette joins them after Le Mans next year.

The only knock I would give to Porsche, at least according to Tafel Racing, is that Porsche doesn't listen to customer input unless you are Penske.

They could easily win by switching to mid-engine, but the rear engine platform is too iconic for them to dispose of.
