gas usuage upon starting car

How much gas exactly does the car use when the engine is first started up? Is it equivalent to a 1 second WOT? I want to know to figure out whether its worth driving somewhere not too far away on campus

I don't know about start-up, but at idle these cars use between 9 and 10mls of fuel per minute, so you could if you got stuck in a snow storm you could car run for over 3 days continually if it meant saving your life...

I read in a technical manual for the N54 that it takes as little as 6 seconds to break even when turning off your car vs idling. So apparently starting takes about 6 seconds of idle fuel. I routinely turn my shit off at lights if I get there when the light first turns red. With the advent of pizeo injectors, fuel management is so tightly controlled that the longer break-even times for idle vs switch off are shortened dramatically compared to standard fuel injection and especially carburation.

Citizen Z, I have heard the same thing. In fact, a large part of the BMW Efficient Dynaics system for the gas cars is the engine cuting off at lights and turning on instantly when it is time to go. belt.

In the manual it recommends shutting off the engine when idling.
