seat comfort
I'm on my second M850 convertible. Love the car but just want to give a quick rant. The seat comfort is really not good. I realize it's not a 7 series but they could have done better. My back and as$ start to hurt on anything over an hour. When I picked up the new one I figured seat position would transfer over with the. BMW ID it didn't. Two months in I'm still making adjustments trying to find my perfect position which I know doesn't exist. Everytime I get in the car it feels a bit off. Ok rant over

Better seats would be nice but I don’t think it would change your one hour drive that much. |

drove my m8 convertible for 1700 miles in 3 days and was surprised how comfortable seats are. Even with no massage function I had in my E63 AMG m8 seats are more comfortable for me. It's very subjective opinion....

Funny you should post this as I was thinking something similar. I find the side bolsters on the seat bottom to be a bit narrow - for me at least (I'm 6'3" / 220). I wish they were adjustable like the side bolsters on the seat back...

Totally agree the seat bottoms suck huge for me as well. I'd like to have them reworked. The seat back is fine but the bolsters are too narrow. I would have preferred a different seat but not the carbon one.

I have had a G20 330i and 840i GC since I got rid of my F34 328GT.
The F34 seats were massively ‘softer’ than both the 330 and 840. The 330 and 840 seat bases are much firmer in comparison but in fairness I don’t get out of the car after a long journey with any aches. Personally I would like more ‘softness’ but it’s not something that bothers me. I am well over 6’ and have no issues whatsoever with finding a comfortable driving position. If you want comfort get an old Volvo S80….seats are like armchairs. My 2003 By far the most comfortable car I have owned. And is still going strong! |

I drove an M850i today for the first time. I also had the opportunity to drive a M4 Comp with the base seats (i.e. no carbon buckets). I definitely preferred the M4 Comp seats to the ones in the M850i. I just couldn't get the M850i seats adjusted to a "great" seating position. The best I could do was "good".
But I think I would like the carbon buckets even better because I tend to like heaviliy bolstered seats. |

At 6'6" I'd have to say (obviously my milage may vary from others) is the M850i seats and my driving comfort is superb. I've done 7 hours in the car on a road trip and it's the 1st car I could do so without shifting around in my seat to not end up with lower back pain. My only ask (and mentioned earlier in the thread) is more cushion in the bottom seat. Not a show stopper but would be nice.
Should also point out that my seat is at the lowest setting and all the way back. Yep it's rubbing the non-existent back seat in my coupe but I knew going into it that's just to hold my sun visor, an Adams double soft (dash and iD7 dusting) and box of Kleenex. |

Comp'd to my S550 coupes they do kinda suck lol. BMW needs softer leather, better foam, and a massage feature. The BMW seats also have 0 leather aroma, but the MB exclusive seats in the smell quite nice.

Surprisingly I prefer m8 coupe seats over my 2018 7 series. 4 hour drive la to vegas in the 7 and my rear hurt. 4 hour drive to Palm Springs in the 8 felt just fine
Note the 7 had standard ivory leather. 8 has the ivory white tartufo merino interior |

It takes a little work and time to dial them in, but once you do I find the M8 seats perfectly comfortable. I’m 5’9” and 165 lbs. I’ve found every BMW I’ve owed - 7 owned at this point - is the same way with the seats.
What would wear on me over time on longer drives would be driving in “Sport Plus” shock absorber setting; probably would be fine in “comfort” mode. |
