Turbo Transformer v JB+ v JB4
Hey all, so I’ve been looking into options for a piggyback tuner (I am trying to avoid BM3 because I’d have to get a bench unlock and I don’t want to cause issues with the dealership). I am currently stuck between Jb+ and turbo transformer and slightly considering a jb4 as a more in depth option. I would like to know if anyone has had experience with TT or JB+ and if they have had any issues... also if anyone has upgraded from TT or Jb+ to jb4 if the difference is worth the money. I’m not looking to be running this 24/7 as my car is my daily and I don’t want to put any unnecessary stress on the powertrain. Any experiences and information is welcome I’m just having some trouble deciding between the 3. Also I plan on running the car at the local drag strip to see what kind of a difference it will make. Is it a good idea to push this motor that hard with these piggyback tuners or are they only safe when doing the occasional pull on the street here or there?

Dinan has their sport performance piggyback as an option as well. https://www.dinancars.com/products/s...arts/D440-0047
I have been running this on my 330i for a couple months now and have been pleased. At the end of the day, performance from all of the piggyback options will be similar. You may be able to squeak a tad more out of the jb4 due to the various maps, but it would almost certainly be negligible. |

The app is a bit wonky but does work. If you are using a recent Android version/device you need to reach out to Dinan support for their beta version as the current play store version will not work with newer Android versions.

Honestly, theirs nothing wrong with the other options. For me what sealed the deal was the price, app, and tunning of the TT module. You can tune when you want the boost to kick in, how smooth, and how much boost. Currently, I'm running a really gradual slope up to 3+ pounds, starting at 6psi. Meaning that the signal is intercepted at 6psi and starts to add boost gradually from that point. |

So, I think I have narrowed it down to Dinan sport and Turbo Transformer but I want to know some more. How is drivability on either of these and which would be more reliable? Again, I don't plan on leaving it plugged in or constantly on, maybe a max or +3psi when I want some power and more pep in the car. Also, would I be able to get a warranty replacement if something were to say happen and I had remove the unit from the car before bringing it to the dealer or should I just play it safe and if something goes wrong replace it at an independent shop and remove the unit for good to prevent any future issues?

Does it make a big difference in dependability since Dinan is a bigger brand dedicated to BMWs or is the difference negligible?

The cool thing about TT is you can control the curve of added boost so that it's not at jumpy as other piggyback systems. I know that when I raised the curve the power did not come on as smooth. After I dropped the power transition smoothed out. |

I have one and I absolutely love it. Much better than my JB+ which wasn't smooth when it came to power delivery. WOT, the JB+ was good.
My JB4 with a custom map 6 is phenomenal. I didn't mention anything since there are a few threads regarding the JB4 and JB+ and I have zero experience with TT.

I just ordered a TT. From what I can tell, the TT, JB+ and Dinan all do exactly the same thing, add boost. The TT is the only one that is user adjustable, making it almost a mini JB4 (obviously not as sophisticated). Since my car is otherwise stock and will remain that way, I see no value in paying up for a JB4. For the price of the TT, the lack of negative reviews and the responsiveness of the owner, I'm happy to give it a whirl.
Of course I'm only in this position because of BMW's quest to stamp out tuning. I was thrilled with my BM3 tune until I let the software on the car update. Wasn't willing to have to bench unlock the ECU for every update. The good news is if I like the TT, one is going on my Edge ST next. |

Jb4 is the most advanced option with the most power and features (also safety failsafes).
I would not compare it to the TT. TT compares to the Jb+

It depends on your setup, the Jb4 has map for stock cars and maps for upgraded turbo and methanol injection.
