Trim error from factory

Hey y’all…so I’m trying to understand what my options are, and/if i’m being somewhat irrational in my thinking; or even how to proceed.

Ordered the carbon fiber trim, upon checking the status after receiving my production number I notified my CA it stated wood. He advised that the website would update in a few days.

Well…this monday car went into assembly and I pinged again to advise it still had the wrong trim shown. I didn’t receiving a response until today, meanwhile the car is already dispatched from factory as of today.

I am told the factory made the error and they’ll be sending the correct trim and techs will do the swap under warranty (usual 4y/50k) when it arrives.

Is it completely irrational of me to not want to take this car now? I’d prolly have to go through the whole process from allocation all over again? Are they just pushing this car on me now based upon response?

Or do I just bite the bullet here.

What would you do? Does this merit any type of compensation…anyone have an similar experiences….

All of the carbon trim is very simple to snap in place and some bolt on and others double sided tape. Don't sweat it if they are going to do it for you at no charge.

The trim pieces will be an easy swap. As long as it isn’t costing you, I wouldn’t worry about it, definitely not worth reordering, IMO.

Trim parts are usually a fairly simple install. If you ever take your car in for some warranty work, half the trim panels in the affected area is removed and reinstalled without you even knowing what happened. I would just wait to see what it comes with. You might even like the panels and then you could use it as a further bargaining chip for a discount.

I have wood trim on mine where I paid extra $1100 while carbon trim is 'included' and I love it. Its glossier in real life than picture

Ash black silver. Correct? Exactly what I wanted on my 2020 M850i as it was introduced that year. The kicker was M8 or 840i only. Waged a war with BMW NA as to why I could not get it on a M850i that stickered at $127K but could get it on a 840i stickering at ~$100K. Lost that battle so ended up with carbon fiber which was my only "settle" on the car as everything else built to my desired specs.

Ash Grain Grey…., I hear y’all, maybe it is a fairly simple install. I guess I don’t have a lot of faith when it comes to taking things apart and calling it ‘new’.

I have Ash Grain Grey in my '23 8401 GC. I absolutely love it! Had I ordered my car without seeing it I would have ordered Carbon Fiber. Now I am glad I didn't. Don't get me wrong, I love CF, but I see it everywhere now so it has lost some of its appeal. The Ash Grey with black interior adds enough contrast and looks more "fancy" as my daughter says. It also does not show smudges as much as CF or especially Piano Black.

Sorry! Super crappy cellphone pic incoming....

Kansr in my 26 years owning BMWs (all, except one, factory ordered), and reading similar tales like yours from others.....in nearly all cases the "manufacturing error" boils down to the dealer ordering the car incorrectly. That said, maybe the dealer will do right by you and order the set of CF trim you requested and get service to install it. Just be ready for them to balk on this once they realize the total cost for this project. It's a costly endeavor. I suggest you have a plan B. Meaning either be ok accepting the ordered trim, or have them order another car now.

claykin I appreciate your honesty, and it’s what I was looking for to be honest.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. I was told the CF would be installed upon delivery. We shall see.
