Thinking of trading my 650i xdrive in for a 840i

Little bit of a background. I have a 2014 650i xdrive convert, wife has/had a 2022 430i xdrive. 430 was wrecked and totaled out so we are considering consolidating down to 1 convertible and trading in my 650i in for a 2023ish 640i convert. It will primarily be driven by my wife given her 430 was her daily driver.
So thoughts on the 840s vs.650s in regards to reliability, handling, etc? I havent done a lot of research on the 8 series, but it looks very similar to the 650. I love my 650, but it is getting up there in years and quite a bit bigger than what she is use to with the 430. Prior to the 430 she had a SL.
Thoughts on our plan? Also, my 650 is not my daily driver, just a weekend 'datenight 'car.
thx

Well, if it's for the wife I think the 840i is a wonderful idea. Spacious, stylish, and still very sporty.

But if were me, I wouldn't want to go from a V8 (which you had in the 650) to the B58, so I'd go with the M850i if you can swing it, price-wise

I think an 840 would be within fractions of an inch the same size as your 650, so if that seems too large for her I think the 840 will as well.

I could be wrong, but I think the 8 grew quite a bit. 2 guys I work with have a 6, and my 8 looks quite a bit wider, particularly at the rest haunches.

The 650 is 74.5 inches wide w/o mirrors. The 840 is 74.9 inches wide w/o mirrors. So less than a half inch difference. Your eyes are fooling you.

The B58 is plenty fast after break in. Mine will spin the tires and squeal without power brake/launch control or WOT and power slides in Sport with Traction Control off and gets 30MPG on motorways. You don’t need a V8 to have fun or be sporty.

I’m female and the size is not an issue at all…it handles like it’s on rails at pretty much any speed. Next level comfort and luxury with just the right amount of bling. A perfect commuter. I’ve had mine for a year and could not be happier!
