Wow. People apprenty don't understand its bmws first gen car and the future. Meanwhile your comparing a second gen r8

And to top it off bmw is investing in the future. People may like the r8 but there is an audience out there Catered for the i8 group.

Second gen i8 should be more interesting in due time

R8 = dark roast (R8 all day/night long until M matches wits)

i8 = soy latte

I just hope all the lightweight tech makes it into a future V8/10/12 M car (3/4 series or Z coupe)

I really hope BMW finds its center again

I'm not sure what it is, but I'm not feeling this new R8 design at all. I like the old one better. I8 this time.

Thoroughbred V10 or Mini Cooper Inline-3?

R8 no comparison, i'll even take the previous generation with the gated manual if put side by side with the i8

It's got nothing to do with being an audi fan or hating the i8 , its people giving their honest opinions . Just cuz it's bmw doesn't mean we have to love it, especially not over the r8.
Maybe if both were v10 there would be a reason to love the i8 more .
I personally would take the i8 but still love the look and sound of the r8

Goddamn that new design is atrocious. They ruined the front design by making it look less wide and less aggressive while also going backwards on the LED design. Are you kidding me? The lights look like they are just 1 level above the A3 while the last gen LEDs were a hundred times more aggressive. And the broken blade ruines the side profile. The rear tail lights are also a downgrade. Looks like the 3 series LED bars mushed together.
With that said, as much as I love the i8 (I do a lot). I'd have to go with the...
911 Turbo S or GT3 I'd even take the new NSX over the new R8 to be honest.

R8 V10 all day!! The i8 just doesn't do it with the skinny tires and small engine. If it had wider tires and put up numbers like the Porsche 918 does, then it would be a different story. I8 is great economy car but not a real sports car.

Audi R8.

i8's design is not my cup of tea. Both inside and out. And the engine... I am all for downsizing and Eco-friendliness and being reasonably modest. Yet somehow, a small capacity engine in a car that aspires to super car league turns me down.

I guess this old cliche of "no replacement for displacement" sums it up for me

Crash my I8, get an insurance payment, and then get the R8. That's how much better it is.
