Wheel weights falling off

22 M850i. Have aftermarket wheels on. Fell off on the front wheels from the manufacturer. Had them rebalanced locally and fell off again. Anyone experience this? Wondering if the brakes are getting too hot? Had the calipers powder coated and running isweep pads. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Stock rotors. Doesn't seem to be happening in the rear but would have to double check.

The tire shop may need to purchase better stick on weights. However, it is also important that they first use denatured alcohol to clean the area where the weights will be applied. Also, if your car is calling for 4oz+ of weight on the inside or outside plane, the shop should break down the tire and rotate it on the wheel. You want to avoid long strips of weights.

Most likely heat is not your enemy, it's the technicians workmanship.

It happened at two different places two different times. The manufacturer in CA who balanced them before shipping to me, then locally again after they fell off the first time. The local place said they did break it down and rotated the tire when they fixed it.

The only thing I could recommend is to sand down the area where the weights would go to rough up the clear coat and/or paint.

I'll have to ask the manufacturer. It's the second set of wheels I've had from them. First set were 23s on my Q8 and had no issues with them. Inner barrels gloss black on both sets so I dunno.

No sanding, no roughing up surfaces. Use denatured alcohol and if need be get a roll of 3M VHB double sided foam tape to use with the wheel weights. Better quality wheel weights come with one of the super sticky 3M tapes. Cheap weights use no name tape.

I'm confused or else just ignorant. Why are there weights on the wheels from the wheel manufacturer? I've never seen that. Once you put on a tire, any pre-existing weights may just require even more weights to balance the tire. I thought wheel makers balanced wheels by grinding away material on the inside surface before finishing the wheel.

I bought wheels and tires from them and they shipped me the wheels with the tires mounted so I could put them on my car right when they got here. Just like if you bought wheels from tire rack or discount tire. Done it over 10 times at least over the years

Ah, ok. That makes sense. They must not have pressed the weights on at all.

2 different places not pressing them down?

I've had probably 10 sets of wheels and I've never had weights fall of this quickly.

Yea I dunno. I've had over 20 sets of wheels over the years and never had this issue before.

Garage List
I had the same problem at the track on my 911 given the hot temps from the brakes. Put some aluminum tape over it and it'll be fine.

This is what I was leaning towards if it keeps happening.

Did either of you ceramic coat the wheels previously?

I didn't ask them to but I guess I don't know. I asked them on my first set I got a few years ago and they said they stopped doing it
