I spend time every time I get in a car with some half wit inching back into a spot, parking over the line and generally doing a shite job of what would have easily been done forwards. Every. Single. Time.

I'm sure some of you are particularly skilled at it, but through your smashing skills you've started a trend amongst the fools of the road trying to copy your fantastic skills.

is this a US thing to park front in? when I was in Taiwan it's back in, always (though during driving test, that's also one of the thing they test you, you have do it in one shot, no going back and forth)

I have - that was actually the first accident I ever had that involved insurance (since the other party was in a government car, I couldn't say "you pay for yours, I'll pay for mine" and walk away) ... though, to be fair, "I hit him" harder than "he hit me" (thanks to my lead-footed driving).

I backed out at the same time that the car on the opposite side of the road did. We didn't see each other and collided at the center of the road.

Both his car and mine got new rear quarter panels, rear bumpers and boot lids as a result. As an added bonus, we both got to pay the insurance excess since it was classed as a 'both at fault' accident.

You make a very good point... I'll stop silently judging people who park in their garages forward from now on

90% of the time as some fooks tailgate so close I end up driving past empty spaces which are then taken by said fooks.

Funny I found this thread.

Just yesterday my wife was making fun of me for "showing off" that I park into every spot.

She couldn't really say how I was showing off?

Reverse in for numerous reasons, with the most important reason being that if for your car needs a boost, you have the engine easily accessible to get jump started.

Again, how often does this happen to people? I drive a manual, so can always get it going with a dead battery, but it's still like claiming that you live underground just in case a meteorite strikes your property.

front facing into my garage. Easier in and I just pull out the same way I pulled in avoiding any mirror dings from the side of the doorway. More importantly, I park on the left side of my garage and the electric charging unit is on that side of my garage so pulling face in gives me immediate and easy access to my plug-in (530e).

When it's working right, your battery is likely the least of your worries but you just don't know especially during the winter. This winter alone I know a whole bunch of people who ran into battery problems and none had to do with age or dying battery.

Besides, you have to reverse anyway so why not just reverse into a parking spot with the added benefit that if your battery does go out, anyone can come and help.

Good grief dude.

I have spent tons of time waiting on some knucklehead to back OUT of a space, and they have to back 3/4s out and into traffic before they can see cross traffic, so they often nearly almost hit you.

Car batteries die all of the time, you are just being obtuse by referencing meteors .

Pull straight in if you want, but those who choose to do differently aren't doing anything stupid or unnecessary.

If they do it in a timely manner. Again, I spend way too much time waiting on people to back in to a spot badly. Maybe it's limited to my kid's daycare and my work, but those two places appear to have exceptionally slow backers and their capability to park within the lines is very poor.

In contrast, the folks who pull straight in are far more likely to be centered in the lines and do it much more quickly. They also seem more capable of backing out of their spots in a timely manner.

There are exceptions to both, of course, but by far, I spend more time waiting for the back in crowd than I do the back out crowd.

The number of people angry about backing into spots makes me want to back in to spots more.

This thread has been entertaining.

I was also entertained by the thread where people were losing their shit over people who drive with their fog lights on.

So now I back into parking spots with my fog lights on

Always park in backyards expect at Costco and in the garage. I stopped Costco because the suburban parked behind is about 2 inches from my rear bumper which makes it impossible to put stuff in the trunk. And garage mainly because I start the car a little in the garage and want the exhaust fumes going out.

Work on taking right turns with a green light at under five miles an hour and no signal while holding your cell phone to your bean and you'll be able to send me straight into a stroke.

Never could understand why people would park backed in at a Costco, considering most buy a ton of stuff and loading would be a nightmare.

Always, my front lip is low enough to hit any curbs and I don’t want to scrape it. Rear bumper has enough clearance to not hit any curbs or parking blocks.
