I am on the McLaren forums as well and have been following this one a bit. Quite impressive for a mostly stock car. Upgraded stock turbo internals, catless exhaust and tune only. The 3.8l was and still is a monster from all of their other models but this 4.0l is stepping it up.

There is another one from Excell motor sports. Ran 9.21 at 154mph with tune and exhaust only. They had the record for a couple days. Still do for stock turbo 720.

Why is it easy for this car to have traction, but hard for m4?
Is it tune? Tires?

So more weight= less traction?

I thought downforce caused to have better traction, ie downforce = more weight

No. The 720s is a rear-mid-engine car, so it has more weight on the rear axle resulting in a bit easier traction than a front-engined M4.

A couple of other things....traction control/launch control, rubber build up on the track and then there's the driver.

Dodge Charger Hellcat with a few mods are just as quick for 1/5th the price. Crazy times we live in.

Weight distribution, tire, downforce, etc... all have their place but suspension performance is defined in the details. Mclaren has clearly invested LOTS of time into those details.

Ya unless the hellcat is anywhere but a dragstrip and a turn comes up, good luck getting that 4500 lb pig to turn. Meanwhile the 720s is doing excellent at the track with it's 3170lbs.

The hellcat does its job well, going straight but that's it. This car can do it all.

I didn't even know that. These are some helpful info.

No doubt. My point was the numbers are not that impressive considering the 720s is $$$$$$$ and lighter.

Uh huh. You know, a Camry holds more than a 720s, what a crime!

The Macca isn't made to do one thing, like a Hellcat (recent exploding videos don't exactly show thorough success), it's good at a large range of things, including being faster than its actual competition.

Ya I understand and I tend to think that way at times as well. A car that is 300k$ is expected to perform 3x better than a 100k$ car but that's not the case as 100k$ cars are quite damn impressive. It's not like having a Camry then say a gtr for 3 times the price and getting 3 times the car. Once you get to that high level of performance only slight improvements can be made. McLaren uses much higher quality materials everywhere. Tons of carbon and precious metals. Those alone jack the price way up but do save the weight. These cars still have to be road legal off the showroom floor and drive smooth and quiet enough for the rich people who buy them.

I think if you created some system to judge cars from say 1-10 in various categories like drag race, long distance drive, short city driving, auto-x, top speed runs, etc then I believe you would see how large the gap is between a super car and not. This car would rank high in every category and then would stand out.
