Don't get me started on GE. Numerous problems with GE appliances especially their refrigerators that they actually make. I've also had problems with their dishwashers and over the range microwave. The only appliance from them I haven't had a problem are their ranges.

Yep, we had the ice maker issue as well. Sold the home with fridge in it so no longer an issue. We ended up purchasing another Samsung...https://www.samsung.com/us/home-appliances/refrigerators/4-door-french-door/23-cu--ft--capacity-counter-depth-4-door-french-door-refrigerator-rf23m8070sr-aa/

Samsung knows this issue clearly has a design flaw or defect, doesn't correct the fix either- bad company imo. It's BS but I had an option for extending the warranty and chose not to, I accept some responsibility of the BS.

We had a Kitchen-Aid previous that was better quality, sounded like a ghost lived in it and compressor died after 7yrs of ownership.

We’ve had a Samsung French door with the ice, water and sodastream for about 18 months now. The only issue we have had is two of the shelves have cracked and Samsung have replaced both without issue.

I've had a stainless Samsung french double door/bottom freezer/through door ice maker water dispenser for ~8 years and it's been flawless. It's the model with the "TV" above the ice/water dispenser (i.e. more parts to break) but it's been perfect.

Only annoyance is that the water dispenser is kinda slow. Also, after the ice is made, it's pretty loud when it dumps into the dispenser.

~2 years back my parents bought a stainless Samsung french double door/bottom freezer fridge as their secondary/garage fridge. No issues there either.

I've heard horror stories with LG fridges and Samsung washers/dryers, but have had perfect luck with 2 Samsung fridges and 2 sets of LG washers/dryers (both mine and my parents home), for what that's worth lol

I think they are fairly reliable. We have had ours for 10 years now. The only downside is that parts can be expensive if purchased directly from Samsung. The bulb failed and they wanted $80 to come out and replace it. The bulb they quoted at $30. I managed to get it for $10 from a local hardware store. Replacing it was a pain in the... but there were plenty of video guides online.

We have a Samsung fridge only a couple years old with an ice maker issue. First time I called to report the issue, they said that they didn't have anyone that serviced it in my area and that was that. Every week or so I have to clear out the ice jam so that it starts making ice again. Really annoying. Never buying another Samsung appliance again. They look nice but that's about it.

Samsung makes a French door that is only ~$1500, and looks ok for a sorta-budget French door.

Here is ours:

This is our 3rd Samsung and I have enjoyed them all!!! Reliable, spacious, cold, consistent, attractive. Not sure about all the issues. But For as many negative reviews I read, I read 3 or 4 positive.

Go for it!

If you need to expand your search, Fisher & Paykel makes nice ones that will fit your dimensions too. They're always rated low for reliability but seven never had any problems with our F&P appliances nor the ones in sever of our rental units. Their stainless steel is the easiest to make look good too, I just use Megiuars car wax on them (seriously)

Sorry about that, I thought mine was 67" but it's just a little under!

Under 67" works! Can you share a model number? Their site doesn't show any below 67".

I doubt it matters what brand you get, reliability doesn't exist in the same way anymore. Especially for companies of this size. This pretty much stands for any product, including cars.

Absolute garbage, avoid at all costs. I knew i should have known better and still bought one and nothing but problems.

Too much tech, too many cheap parts.

Whirlpool brands all the way, avoid anything else IMHO. Some saying LG, just as bad imho, especially with parts sourcing.

I've actually ruled out the Samsung. After looking at the unit in person I realized the Sammy is too deep for the space. For whatever reason it's 3" deeper than everything else.

As of now a KitchenAid is the front runner, but I'd consider a higher-end Fisher Paykel if I found one that fit.

Here's a crude drawing of the space.

This is the model number of the F&P that I measured in our kitchen: RF170WDRUX5_N .The F&P site does say 67 - 17/32" but that photo is the actual measurement (under 67") and I just measured again (maybe our legs are adjusted all of the way down?). Ours is not French Door due to the swing not being FD friendly, but the French Door 17 cu counter depth one has the same measurements.

Unlike Alfisti I have never had to order parts for any of the refrigerators (and the oldest one is 11 years old) other than water filters (and a rack for the dish drawers). They were no trouble to get, but maybe his experience is more typical and the reason F&P is not higher rated, and I am just lucky.

i think before you buy Samsung do one of two things:
google for class action lawsuits and/or
call appliance repair and ask what the most repaired brand is (guarantee it will be Samsung)

I found the missing 1/3". I didn't account for the hinge cap! I'm such an ass. Sorry about that! Nothing to see here, carry on

I had a LG fridge with an ice maker that routinely failed within 2 years (got it repaired about 3 times (roughly at years 2,4 and 6) before I gave the fridge to my parents, who still use it today - it's well over a decade old now - and continues to work perfectly as a fridge and water dispenser).

I've got a Samsung fridge that came with this house with an ice maker that hasn't given me a problem at all. I've had it for 2 years, and I expect the fridge is more than 5 years old now.

YMMV.

I will say this though; I work in IT and I went around to set up one of my mate's new Samsung fridge that has the tablet built into the front.

DON'T GO NEAR IT.

The tablet is an absolute piece of shit. They've loaded a cut-down version of android onto it so you can't install your own apps, you can't add google or office 365 accounts - it's a slave to the "Samsung Home Hub" ecosystem - and it's a pain in the arse to get basic functionality working with an iPhone.

All that aside - imagine how outdated the tablet is going to be in 10 years time when the rest of the fridge is still going strong.

If you're considering one with an inbuilt tablet, I recommend you buy the stainless steel fridge (or one of those cool "knock to view" ones) and buy a separate Samsung Android Tablet and stick the tablet to the fridge door.
