Why does BMW offer so many different SUVs? And why four door coupes?

Why does BMW have SUVs in so many different shapes in sizes?

Also what happened to even numbers being coupes and odds being sedan? We don't need a 2 series 4 door gran coupe.

Maybe you don't need a 2 Series 4 door coupe, but other people do?

I am afraid that buyers taste has changed. More SUVs are sold by BMW than cars. The X3 has replaced the 3 series as the brands best seller. So X cars are needed for the survival of BMW.

I agree with you that the gran coupe idea is silly. I don’t know if it makes financial sense either. Sales of gran coupes are extremely small.

A gran coupe is as silly as an M3 or M4... Would be horrible if everyone would own the same car.

Not really. Odd number are suppose to be 4 door sedans. And even numbers 2 door coupes. Gran coupes don’t comply with BMWs numbering system.

BMW build what the market is asking for... market, not us as enthusiast. That's why gran coupes, SUV, fwd, 3 cylinder etc.

Why so much hate? BMW has enough cars for everyone, just pick the right one and enjoy.
And who cares if it's called M3 or M4 or F80 or F82...?

I have zero hate. I also bought the BMW I wanted. That doesn’t mean that I have to like the 4 series gran coupe designation. I think it should be a 3 series gran coupe to comply with their numbering system.

the whole GC naming convention after spliting 2/4 doors is silly. Almost as bad as the AMG GT "4 door," which currently takes my most ridiculous car name award right now.

I remember the day BMW rename the M3 Coupe as M4 and everyone was complaining. Couple years later and no one cares anymore.

Well 5 GT is now 6 Series, 330i is a small 4 Cylinder and so on...

4 door gran coupe is definitely needed for those who want one.

I can't say I'll ever want one of those, but after seeing the trunk space in that monster I can see the need. It has impressive trunk space with the rear seats folded down.

If you are arguing it should be a 3 series gran coupe, I'm not sure that matters. Not in my world at least... call it whatever.

Lady I saw shopping it, I'm sure she does not care about the name.

Excalty that's the point. The owner of the car don't care about the name.

That was before the renumbering system was implemented. I had an E46 M3 Coupe.

Today, 1 Series models have three, four, or five doors.

The three/five door models were always available in Europe, just not in NA.

The 3 used to come in a coupe OR a sedan... some of you guys aren’t remembering this stuff correctly. There wasn’t a 4 in those days. Or a six. Or eight. Or one, or two. Lol.

That is correct. BMWNA doesn’t give us all the models that are available to the rest of the world.

Correct...but it was one plant back in the days (before E92 and E93) for the 3 Series. Now the 3 and 4 Series are splitted up between Munich, Regensburg and Dingolfing. The 4 Series is it's own Series, not just a 3 Series coupe.

??? yeah, I know. I guess there’s a point in there somewhere. Mine was responding to “what happened to even numbers being coupes and odds being sedan” and pointing out that before all the other numbers the three was either a coupe or sedan.

The number changes made it more simple to search for used cars and helps with values.

A 3 series coupe is more of a sports car than a 3 series sedan. Different buyers with much different comparable models. Much different auction and trade in values.

I just want the model numbering to be consistent with what the announced. Placing the moniker 'coupe' on a 4 door car contradicts the definition of 'coupe'.
