Don't be closed minded...there have been a handful of turbo S54's pushing 600-900rwhp S54's in the Calgary area alone over the past 5 years.

12psi and 28psi maps here respectively.

No, the s54 in any form is incapable of producing 1000+ crank HP which it would need to in order to produce 850whp... Apparently you've been closed off from the S54 world. HPF got a lot more power than this out of these engines 10+ years ago. That being said, the 315hp Z3 M was fast for what it was. The lights and trim indicate it was originally an S52 car that's been swapped. The gearing has also been changed. An 02 M coupe will do around 80mph in second gear. The gearing way off with the 5 speed and a redline near 8k, listen to the shift points. The rate of acceleration is way off. This car is around 450bhp, not the mid to upper 5 range claimed. At that range the car would never hook up, especially on those tires. 450-500+hp with trailing arm suspension would be a handful and the car would be more likely to be totaled than filmed before the owner learned to handle the car. The biggest downfall of the suspension layout is snap oversteer.

I'm a huge fan of these cars as well as modifying cars, but this one isn't one of my favorites. Oh and the cars outer tail light bulbs are out. Perhaps due to driving with headlights on during broad daylight for too long. :

Thanks for posting. I forwarded it to a buddy that purchased one of these gems new. He still has her. He was thinking of selling, now he is inspired.

Tubed subframe FTW!

"Clown shoe" is an old, widely used, and respectful nickname for this car, at least in the US.

I don't normally "buy a painting and take a shit on it". I guess this must of been one of his life experiences to use this as an analogy.

I like the build and the effort he has personally put into his passion. It's great to see owners regardless of manufacturer work on their own cars.

The Z3 Coupe is still very famous here and prices grow higher and higher
Nuerburgring times were awesome and many car reviewers deeply impressed at its time.

I'd let the car as is but respect for the proper work.

HP discussion is rather boring. I guess many fast cars of today wouldn' cought it on real streets even in stock configuration. I drove my Roadster many times on the small serpentines of our mountains and I loved the perfect handling.

I was what today is the M2 and from geanology it's a direct predecessor since the E36 '3er Compact' was the base for Z3 as well as for the idea of an 1er Serie.

nope, but that wont fix the single ear diff mount. i had a s52 that had a good 1in rip in the diff mount and a failing subframe, countless popped spot welds, was about 4k to fix.

there was also a 1.9l z3 that had a 100% failure and they dropped the subframe on the highway.

I owned a Z3M Coupe with the S54, yes it was a nice little car but they are insanely overpriced right now. It's one of those things that for the life of me I cannot figure out why they've become so expensive (or really that popular at all). The Z4M is a vastly superior machine in almost every way, and it's common to see the Z3M S54 command higher (sometimes much higher) prices than the Z4M Coupe.

Glad I don't want one again with these prices!

It boggles my mind when people with a particular mindset question why the original/predecessor sells for more than the later version car. An original is an original. Every M3 has been vastly superior to the original E30 M3 but they will never touch it in many aspects, including collectability. And as for the Z4M, it will never touch the original "M Coupe" for many of those reasons as well even if the chassis, suspension, and driving dynamics are vastly superior.

Oh yeah, a 4,500 mile 2002 S54 just sold for an eye-watering $92,000. These are flying into six figure territory. Mine is never going anywhere, as there's really nothing like it. I wouldn't trade it for anything short of a GT3/RS or Turbo S. Don't waste my time with an M3, C63, RS4, etc.
