I'd be stationary and not have any liquids around while reading this if I were you.

Just read through that and yes this thread is nowhere near as intriguing or hilarious hahaha

This thread is completely legitimate on all counts and I'm reading with interest.

I say legitimate because I'm a former heavy beer drinker at my home, and a set of unfortunate circumstances on my home property 3 yrs ago with me moving one vehicle from my private property to state owned property left me with a DUI and having to attend and pay for classes etc...the whole nine to keep my license.

BUT in those classes there were ppl that were actually so addicted to alcohol that they would actually drink HAND SANITIZER to get drunk. There was one person in my classes that I felt so bad for because she just could NOT get it together and had relapsed because she drank hand sanitizer and witch hazel to get drunk. I thought it was bizarre at first but listening to her story, I felt more sympathetic to her plight.

I commend you on being EXTRA cautious in this because alcoholics and recovering alcoholics need NO triggers or help getting them back to an area they're trying to escape.
Thank you! I am glad it sounds like your alcohol problem doesn't control your life unlike my dad. Hard to focus on life when things are starting to catch up with the guy who raised me. I try to distract myself with potential small problems from the big current ones, so it makes me feel better knowing others have had similar issues or know where I am coming from. Thanks again

Well... if you're one of those people who gets squeamish about their food, sure, this thread makes no sense.

But if you've ever taken speed, meth, MDMA, eaten sausages or drank recycled wastewater (I know most people don't willingly/knowingly do that, but that's entirely emotional. Properly recycled wastewater is cleaner than your (normal) drinking water) - then cared to look at how they're made; I don't think it's entirely irrational to look at a $1.00 litre of E85 and think "If I could extract the alcohol out of that, I'd essentially be buying vodka for 50c per bottle".

The only thing that stops me from putting this theory into practice, is none of my mates have access to a chemical analysis lab

Did you also ever wonder if the NOS used in Honda Civics is the same stuff they give you in the dentists chair? ... I did.

Just learnt about torpedo juice, very interesting!

The cost of yeast and sugar adds up, if you're buying refined sugar, I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up costing more than $1.00 per litre of pure alcohol.

The other problem of growing wort is the time it takes and the large volume of raw materials you need... if you were in the moonshining game, it'd certainly be quicker and easier to start with something that you could buy cheaply and unsuspiciously in large quantities which was already 85% pure alcohol.

... That said, by the time you separated it, filtered it possibly added chemicals then extracted them back out and triple-distilled it; it might be much cheaper, easier and safer to just start with sugar, yeast and water.

In automotive NOS, a small amount of sulfur dioxide is added to prevent substance abuse.
