Remote 3D Viewing

Has anyone tried enabling this on their 8 series or 2019 capable BMW? I enabled it on my new 8 series and checked with BMW assist... they’re saying the capability is down...

I made it work several times and intermittently since getting my 850 in mid-December, but it hasn't worked lately. I think it's fair to say that the entire BMW Connected experience is...quite an experience, and not in a good way.

Very unwelcoming come t to hear. Hope this gets to work. But really, what is the purpose of usefulness of this feature other than the cool factor? I'm curious as I have not had a chance to play with all the nifty functions yet. Thx in advance.

I came to use it/tried to use it when the car was being repaired in service, to see if anyone was actually working on my car, which usually they were not, and this probably is not the answer you were hoping to see.

Seriously, it has no discernible function (to me) other than to impress the grandkids.

What steps did you have to perform in order to get it operable?

I know connected drive has to be set up (which i did) and enable the function from inside the vehicle...

Was there anything you had to do with respect to pairing the phone to the vehicle in order to have it work?

Well, I did pair the phone to the car so that the car would recognize it (most of the time) when I'm inside, but I don't think that had anything to do with the remote 3D viewing.

Like you, I have Connected Drive loaded on my phone and I enabled the 3D viewing capability from within iDrive.

You've probably already done this, but use the Connected Drive app on your phone (from some distance from your car) to blow the horn. If that works, you know that your app works and that the 3D function is down for the count on BMW's end.

FWIW, I just did both and - to my surprise - the 3D function did work for me, for the first time in a week or more. It's 10:42 a.m. Monday EDT.

BMW assist is still saying the functionality is down... we “updated” software, delete app and reinstalled... nothing...

Wondering if other 8 owners are having any issues with remote viewing ?

Just tried mine again. Remote viewing is working, at least for me. M850-BMW Connected Drive -iPhoneXS. 7:07 p.m. EDT Sunday, April 7.

Does BMW Connected Drive successfully communicate with your car for other functions - blowing the horn, flashing the headlines, etc."

I tested other functions such as horn and light flash. All operational... just no Remote 3D viewing...

OK, that is weird.

Upon delivery, I had a full suite of issues with Connected Drive, many of which I had to resolve myself through sheer obstinacy with the dealership and BMW. But all the issues did get resolved (for now, fingers-crossed).

I'm out of suggestions, other than maybe a certain block of cars (their internal phone numbers) have not been activated for that function at some level of BMW.

If your dealer puts in a PuMA case, maybe - maybe - someone at BMW will get to the root of the problem.

PuMA is a worldwide BMW database of all reported problems and most with the their appropriate fixes.

When a dealer can't fix a problem and files a PuMA case, the problem goes to a much Higher Authority - and a fix normally comes back down within a few days.
