Thank you for that! Very entertaining to see. This is what I've been waiting for. Lol. Nice to see that the bmw won every time without cheating. Lol. I don't even speak Russian but I got what they were saying. Can't imagine what the M8 will do!

Lol yeah I didn't understand a thing but I got the gist of it. Even when the Merc jump the line the 8 still hawked it down quick. The M8 is going to be a beast. I'm hoping to see potential comparisons against the DB11 & Continental GT. Performance wise, the 8 might give them a run for their money.

Grand Tour is doing the M850i vs the DBS and Conti GT. It should be the M8 of course but that's all we have for now.
The M6 was quicker around a track than the DB11 so it should be interesting to see what happens with DBS vs M8. I personally am not interested in the S63/65 and the Conti GT due to their weight. The only other thing I could think of could be a new 928 aka Panamera Coupe?

I think that the M8 will end up handaling the DBS and conti gt. It’ll definitely put accelerate them and should be faster on track. I think you’ll basically see performance numbers that split them and a 911 turbo

That old S63 did fare rather poorly IMO. More like a S550. Crazy loss and more than it should have.
The current S63 though has the exact same hardware as the W213 E63s which easily dispatches the 850. My take is that the M8 will beat the S63 (and the S63 beats the 850) and it has to as BMW designated the S-Class coupe as its primary competitor. Neither the Aston or Bentley are as these cars serve a different demographic and purpose. That said, the performance of the 850 is outstanding! I still prefer the cabin of the S-Class which is dramatically more airy; Without the B-pillar it is a nice and luxurious place and doesn't have the cramped feeling of the 850... |

I thought they were discontinuing the S Coupe, at least in the USA. Hopefully not, it is a fabulous car and I came this close || to buying one, until I really thought about the depreciation curve and bought a used 750i instead. For about 1/3 the money.
Anyway... funny video, those wacky Russians. Couldn't understand a word.

Part of the facelift was new engines, transmissions, variable 4wheel drive for the AMG (4matic+) and new tech. So the AMG is much faster car now. It is interesting though that BMW formulated the 8 series specifically to compete with the S-Coupe/cab and now those are somewhat going away. |

With all due respect , the 8 series is no competitor for the S coupe. It is specifically made for people who find the S too big and soft and not sporty enough and a 911 too hard core and too sporty.
This is where the 8 comes in. There is no competition at this price point except maybe the LC500(h). If money would be of no issue the closest competitors are the DB11 and Maserati. Maybe the Conti GT also. BMW has been a master in finding new 'niches' and exploiting them with great success. The car has exceptional presence. The broad shoulders, the long hood. A true eye catcher. The dynamic and coherent design is usually only available at close to double the price. So, I for one, am extremely happy BMW decided to create this beauty. A sports car for the road. Meaning easily usable on a daily basis. I had given up on a car like this. The S coupe is way too much for me. I have a 911 Turbo (997) for those special days where I want a warp speed sports car. Thought about adding a new 992 but why? I have already a great 911. Like the LC500h much, but rear seats are even worse and trunk is non existent. And then I discover this exceptional car with rear seats with plenty of room for my daughters and even more, I can fold the rear seats to create a wagon like loading area and can fit my race bike. I think BMW decided to make this car especially for me. I wanted something special but did not want to give up too much practicality. I wanted comfort but did not want to give up too much 'sport'. How fortunate for me BMW decided to give me that at such a great price. Big thanks to Munich!! Last edited by DVR; 02-17-2019 at 01:14 AM.. |

The 6 series was a financial loss for BMW and they stated as much that if they build a low volume car, they might as well make it a high-end one like MB's S-Class. There is of course the marketing hype that they like to consider themselves a competitor to the 911, which it isn't or couldn't be with its size and weight. IMO, the Lexus LC500 isn't considered competition by any company. Sales are dropping; in January I believe they sold 90 cars in all of Europe an 90 in the US. For 2019 I will likely be less than 2000 in either region... That said, the 8series a perfect fit for many. I am definitely waiting for the M8 BMW has done a great job on the way the car performs |
