We found something in the new 4.4L V8 in the M850 that is supposed to be coming for 2020MY. It has a dip stick! a real and honest dip stick!

It has to be an accident - BMW swore off the mechanic dipstick a decade a go - they can't have been wrong, they are BMW.

There are just some things where electronics and complication don't make something better - glad BMW finally realized that a mechanic measuring device is just way better than anything electronic they can come up with!

Since I've been clinging to my beloved e46 330i, I didn't even know it went away. Anybody know why? How would you verify your exact oil level after servicing?

There is a way to measure the engine oil via the iDrive system

Finally, hopefully they bring this to the other engines (specifically the inline 6's), I much prefer the old fashion way of checking oil via dipstick than the stupid electronic sensor that just says "ok."

IIRC emissions from degraded seals.

Next question is whether a fluid extractor can be used.

Hope it is not some "prototype" they are "testing" for another e-dipstick and actually give us an old fashioned working one.

Hell, sell us a "conversion" kit as well, so we can use an actual physical dipstick instead of electronic one.
