On why I find all criticism of the M8 to be dumb and stupid.
The M8 (mine being a 2020 non-competition convertible) is not perfect... I guess? But, I take any criticism of it personally.
I almost didn't buy one because of the reviews and complaints about how uncomfortable the seats are. I can't drive almost any car more than 2 hours before my gluteus medius (hip muscles?) begin to ache so bad I have to stop. I drove the M8 12 hours + 6 hours (with a break of 3 hours to sleep). 1. It's not pretty enough - It is handsome and understated (I had an SL; my wife said it was very a much an "elegant lady", too her the M8 is a grown ass man with nothing to prove; like prime Mike Tyson in an Armani tux, casually smoking a cuban, or OG Sean Connery James Bond) 2. "It looks like a Mustang" - kinda, but OK, so what? See 1. 3. For the reviewer who said it's TOO powerful - I don't think I need to explain why that's beyond dumb and stupid; 4. Too sporty / not "comfortable" enough - LOL; "Mommy's gonna' make it all better, sweetie"; I mean, did I buy an M8 so it would be like an S63? Or did I buy it because I wanted a luxurious M car? AMG puts a big motor and harsh suspension on a luxury car and that car is better at the stated task? Again, dumb and stupid (S63 = Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.94 g; M8 = Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 1.03 g, the acres of leather are about equal and BMW does tech better than anyone [remember when all the reviewers hated iDrive]); 5. "I'm an audiophile and the stereo isn't good / sucks" - LOL; first of all, if you own an M8 you almost certainly are too old to hear the vast majority of information the stereo is conveying and if you don't know that, you're not an audiophile; second, if you were an audiophile you wouldn't compare a car stereo to a home stereo that should cost $30k + if "you're an audiophile"; third, play it at reference volumes (80-90 percent) with the top down and tell me again how bad it is; too get anything similar on the aftermarket in terms of quality, aesthetic, and integration would cost far more than $3,500.00; not enough bass = you love the sound of distortion. I think there will be more to come, but I want to thank all of the complainers, and reviewers who are so indebted to Mercedes and Audi for driving down the price of the M8 - my wife has agreed that I won't have to share my second one with the family when I get it to replace my Cayenne GTS. No car is perfect. Best to read reviews as entertainment or they'll always piss you off or steer you in the wrong direction

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. Some more opinionated than others, and some don’t have a clue.
At the end of the day you bought it, it’s your car and as long as you enjoy it does not matter what others think IMHO.

^ This. If your happy with it, enjoy it. External validation is not worth the distraction from the happiness created with your purchase - IMHO.

I still don't see the mustang in it... but I'm not sure which gen they are mostly talking about. I mean fast back design does not go to just the mustang... The front no way in hell and the rear is huge mustang has a tiny ass with a deep cut back into the taillights. Even side by side in person I don't see it... Maybe because mine is the vert???

With that side by side I see how much more different it is!!! lol maybe my eyes go to the details and not the overall shape? I mean I don't see a line that shares besides maybe a roof line? Maybe I'm just nutz...

Who says the mustang is ugly ?? The m8 coupe is one if the best looking coupe IMO . Others may like 4 doors , convertible or roadsters. It a free world. I put a deposit on an M8 coupe coz I LOVE ❤️ it . If the Mustang was build with the same tech an quality as the M8 before the M8 was ever designed , I may well of bout one . Great looking car. That aside , no car is perfectly built !

If I knew how to post pictures, I would. The Mustang and the M8 share about the same as my reference above. Last edited by jargon; 04-20-2023 at 08:24 PM.. |

For what it's worth I ran into the Mustang owner (guy worked in a different department so didn't really know him) a few times either in the morning on arrival or afternoon on departure. He loved the M850i and although there are similarities he flat out stated it was the better looking of the two. He wasn't even originally aware of what it was as in December 2019 the 8-series was even a bigger sleeper than it is today for seeing ones on the road. So had to explain it to him, etc. took him for a quick drive and that sealed the deal. |

Same here. When Ford came out with the current design the "traditionalists" screamed and moaned just the the new BMW grill on the 3s and 4s. Me? I thought it looked great. 👍

When you buy this car, you get what you get out of the box. You have one hell of a beautiful car. Forget the similarity to the mustang, draw a sleek car and you’ll probably draw something like both. Add the Nissan Altima coupe. Looked a little similar too. In a parallel universe, someone else will draw the same shape. Solid engine and tranny. I mean seriously, what better offering could BMW come up with?…at the same price point. Whatever stereo is fine. Flame suit on and no disrespect to anyone’s preference. Put $30K into this car and you’ve got a very versatile automobile. Classy out on the town, road trips, and track days, it’ll do it all. Nah, it shouldn’t come from the factory the way I’m thinking, but it doesn’t take much to bring out the full potential of this car for a pretty reasonable amount. |

Yeah I get the mustang comment a lot. Mercedes S63 coupe is a way better looking coupe in my opinion, but the car was killed years ago. It’s less about the looks for me and more about a dying breed of V8s.
Some people are just jealous too. Go drive a mustang and then drive an M8. Enough said |

On the MB front I like the new SL. Finally got to see one in real life in the local grocery store parking lot. Of course vert aka roadster only. Would love it if they made it as a coupe as well. |

I feel in that side shot they look similar. Imo that's what similar means. Of course not the same. But in general they do. Especially darker colours.
I still think the BMW looks better. But I also feel Ford has done one the best jobs on that car since the originals. Not in the same league but pretty nice on it's own. If I had a stable of cars, I'd have one. I'm an audiophile too. |
