The 8 is just the opposite of what you describe. It's gorgeous, sharp and very distinctive design IMO
That's literally your opinion. I see it as a "Edgy Scene kid" that's trying really hard to be relevant but at the end of the day still isn't as cool as the Ferrari Daytona. Maybe I'm an asshole, but I hate all of this electronic bullshit. It's all cancer.
Did you really just try to prove your point by saying that the BMW isn't as pretty as a Daytona and that it's trying to hard because it's not? How, in any universe, is a comparing a Ferrari's styling to BMW's even in the same conversation?

So in your "opinion" what car manufacturer at this price point or lower makes cars that aren't "trying to be a Daytona"?

Im with you re design not being the best on some modern BMWs. For example the F30 in any variation or package is uglier than sin to me. The F80 however is a thing of beauty. But that's my "opinion", I feel like the F30 in Msport is trying to be an edgy racing kid that wants to be an M3 but can't. But hey, what's that saying, opinions are like assholes.... and mine may stink to you.
Alright well I said nothing about price but ok.

I get where you're coming from but I actually appreciate having AWD as it makes the car usable year-round for those of us who live in sh*tty climates. BMW will say the real reason is to get the power down.
I was talking to my friend today and I was like irl man xJive is kinda a joke for me. It's supposedly made for power but they set it up to be used in bad weather. If it was for power the car wouldn't have suspension that looked like it came from skyjacker lol

SMG?

It's attractive but also just looks like a "big" BMW to me. I was hoping for something that would pay homage to the original. Long hood, sharp nose, small kidneys and headlights, pillar-less windows, etc. There is a beautiful rendering online of what it should have been.

This is really just a redesigned 6-series with a new name. It's not a "real " 8-series.
Kinda like how in 1993 this "real 8 series" was just a re-badged 6 series (i.e. E24 1976-1989)?

I agree with a lot of the sentiment on this post. While these renders do look good (the convertible looks great BTW), a BMW shouldn't be just about it's looks. Now I know, nobody has driven the new 8-Series yet, but we all know how heavy the thing is, and driving dynamics have a lot to do with weight. From a design perspective, I only love certain things about the 8-Series because they are discontinuing design architecture that I never liked to begin with, such as the headlights joining the kidney grilles up front, but otherwise BMW isn't taking huge risks again like they did with the E60 and E63. You want to see some companies really throwing design caution out to the wind, look at Lexus and their LC500 or Aston Martin and their new Vantage. This new 8-Series is great, but I'm not compelled to buy one, or even an M8 because I know that it won't really be any lighter than an F90 M5. I now put this M850i in the category that I regard the BMW i8 in, it's a cool car, but I don't care to ever own one.

Didn't say anything about the e chassis period was high tech. Their tech was garbage actually l, however their semi dry sump, 5.0L V10 is something that will never be put into a sedan ever again by a major auto mfg. and as for the SMG comment, I'm really not an SMG fan at all however I will give it mega bad ass point for shifting as hard as it does, I like the DCT. SMG slams gears like a mad wide slams doors

Everything. They have always pioneered technology that will eventually trickle down to the rest of the car makers, radar cruise control, Hydraulic suspension, night vision, etc they strive to make the best without compromise. Not saying that it always works, it certainly doesn't but if you question what I'm saying look at the Mercedes 600 Grosser (Mercedes Big) and you will see what I mean when I talk about no compromises. Everything was hydraulic. Seats, windows, trunk, suspension, everything. Did it work, yes, was it perfect, not even close.

Okay, I agree with that on the most part. Although I don't really pay much attention to things like cruise control or night vision. But on the other side, the MB infotainment system was miles behind BMW, and that's something I do care about. But maybe you don't consider this as tech (instead you may call it just software). They started with a new infotainment generation now though, so let's see how this will turn out.

Hoffenmeister kink at 8 GC is awful.. i dont like new Kink design that started woth X2, i prefer those on previous models, lets say x5 f15, it hade that soft curve and than sharp corner , new style at x2, and 8gc has two almost equaly sharp, it has lost it remerkable design, thats the thing that seprates side ciew from Audi and Merc, that was minor clue to see difference bewtnww bmw and rest of "cars".. now, it wont be that easy
