Musings of a new-ish 840d owner
Just a few weeks into ownership of my 840d, I felt like sharing a few assorted impressions and perhaps get your feedback on them:
- This is, by far, the most "complimented" car I've ever had; basically everyone that sees me in it tells me how great-looking it is; - I can't get to grips with the dark tint of the rearview mirror - is there any way to adjust its sensitivity? It looks dark even in darker areas, such as garages; - This is, first and foremost, a driver's car - yet the internal space is great for my tall wife, as well as my kid and his huge child seat - no complaints there; - As I use the 840d as my weekly driver/commuter, I can't help but feel like it's way more powerful than I will probably ever need it to be - it cruises like nothing else, and driving at the speed limit (120km/h) feels like it's not even starting to tickle the engine. incredible power and torque that makes one feel good; - I love the B&W audio - it fills the cockpit space perfectly; - Did I mention this is such a beautiful car? - I could not imagine driving it without the whole driving assistance/360 camera stuff - that's a very long car; - Gonna install my summer tires soon - can't wait to feel them on the road; - I hate the way BMW makes you create an account in order to enable additional user profiles - my Volvo SUV is simpler in this regard; - and probably THE best thing of it all: an astounding, fantastic, unbelievably great mileage with diesel - I cannot believe a car this size can manage more than 1000 km with a single tank! And here is a pic of it for those who had missed my first post: |

another 840d with B&W owner here, mine is a convertible though!
Had mine 3 years and it really does everything! Just got 40k miles on it and fitted a tdi tuning box last week as couldn't get it remapped without lots of hassle. So far so good, the mid range shove on it now is very good! I had to dial back the highest level mapping on the tuning box and the power delivery was bit lumpy, one levbel down and it's nice and smooth. https://tdi-tuning.com/en-gb/car/bmw...uning-box-chip

Although I find the 840d powerful enough in everyday use I'm very tempted. However, I think I'll wait until the warranty expires. I know they say it leaves no trace in the ECU after it's been disconnected, but you never know... Also a bit concerned about how the rest of the power train would handle the extra torque and BHP, did you check on that? |
