I’ve been thinking about this - with the relentless war on ICE cars, and tech going mad, when the time comes, what will you buy??
The 8 has so many fantastic touches, but it’s not streets ahead of say, a 5 series, just there’s bits in it that make it feel so perfect. Weirdly, that’s what I think my next car might be…but I’ll miss my 8 so so much, but it’s a car BMW will never make again. I can’t see myself in a Merc or an Audi, so it’ll have to be a BMW for me, but I’m worried whatever I buy will be a disappointment. Anyone else have the same thoughts? Mine is only (a lowly) 840i, but it has pretty much every option on it. An open discussion for everyone….GO |

Simply put, the econazi/EU/woke agenda will be dead long before ICEs are dead. So I will continue to enjoy my 840d for years to come, and continue to buy ICEs until any other fuel alternatives are as efficient as the latter.

I hear you mate - likewise. But I don’t like to run cars for too many years. That said, it might be an option given uncertainty / government gaslighting (as I like to call it) stops. 840d is a cracking car.

Well. The 840 is not really a " dream " , as so to say. Not that it's not great looking , but its not an full blown M car.
I like to keep cars for a long period of time. I get personally attached. Value ....? Drop a rock on the ground and it want drop anymore. 1st few years of owning an expensive car is difficult. One's eye is always on the s/h value market prices. That's wrong ! If you gonna change cars like socks , then go S/H .. Great value. But .... if you are a car freak like me , buy what you love and keep it . We love pets too , and they don't last for ever ...if you love your motor and care for it ....it will outlast any pet and age with you . That's me .... I have a Nissan patrol y60 for 28 years now ...love it as there's not many around now . Love the brick like shape... cost now x2 than what it was worth when new. ! |

I actually think I might buy an EV after this.
It would be my first EV. Don’t get me wrong, I love my ICE engines, and I like them loud. But I’d like to give EV’s a try, I think they could make wonderful daily drivers if you don’t have to use them for long road trips. Plus, my garage already has a “fun” sports car so I can always get my ICE kicks when I crave them. |

My tentative plan is that I'm hoping whatever this thing they are going to replace the 8 with around 2025 is amazing and I want one. I'm still not mentally ready for a full electric.

Diesel engines aren't gong anywhere soon. They'll be needed for a long while yet.
I bought my M8 intending to keep it winter free. I'll keep it long time. Just add something else hybrid maybe. Full electric....no thanks. |

I think there will be a crazy hybrid of some sort that ticks the environmental box as well as being completely bonkers.
There are plenty of conversations about hybrids exceeding 1000hp sooner or later. We might all find ourselves presented with a crazy new BMW sports flagship that totally outperforms everything currently available. I have to confess, I can’t even imagine a 0-60 being done in less than my current 2.9secs but I’m up for trying it if one appears. |

The only reasons I bought mine new were because, a) I knew I would keep it long enough to offset the depreciation hit, and b) I got EXACTLY the build I wanted.
Had the pandemic not created havoc in the automobile market, I would likely have looked at a 911 variant as my first choice. The M8 satisfies me and I’ll never sell it. I’ll be dead before the market forces me into an EV. |

I can see me keeping my 840 for seven or eight years and then switching to EV…if the prices have gone down and the infrastructure improved significantly. I only do 7000/8000 miles a year. |

Don't get me wrong . The 840 is a beautiful car . 7 or 8 years is good . I keep cars longer. B4 you buy an ev car , hire one for a week and see. I buy if there was an M8 hybrid . Maybe one day .
The first 5 years if owning a car outright is definitely difficult. Becomes boring after a while . That's when upgrading wheels and other stuff keeps us petrol heads keep cars just a little longer ....then ...it gets boring again ..until people start saying..." ahh , that's a nice car you have ". You see , the longer to can keep a certain car , the more interested others get . We may be very familiar with our road buddy and know the bad sides as well as the gret side of the car... The day will come when a coupe will not be as sexy as they were. My father had a 1970 280se 2.8 sr8t 6 coupe Merc . To this day I have to say....its still sexy looking. The bonnet lines and curves are almost designed to look like a woman's curvy body . The 8 will one day be sought after just like now the old AND older 6 series are. |

As for EV I will change my other half’s car to an EV in about 12-24 months time. So will get to experience that. I here Fisker is doing great things with EVs.

😆 wow. That bad? Did you not enjoy it ever ? Would a M8 excited you more ? Big priced anything shows up more when it loses value . When I buy a motor , I buy for keeps. The only thing for NOW , are properties for investment. Cars are never the same thing , they will lose value . I guess the reason BMW give great contributions when buying new , is for the 1st 2 years of price depreciation that happens. Any car you buy over 60 70 or more k will drop dramatically but for a limited time. Look at the previous 6 series....Still holding value after all thease years . Some animals shed their hair and fur too but remain the same animal it was intended to be.

But, as the dealership sales manager even admitted to me, I was 'encouraged' too much into the sale when I should not have been sold the car in the first place. That doesn't mean they will 'fix' it though. Barring some absolute miracle, I'm absolutely stuck with the car now. I wish I could just sell/trade it and just go back into another X6. But I can't even get an X6 40i like I had before without paying double interest and 20% more compared to 2021. It's like making a $70,000 mistake. Rob |

I had a Taycan S on test for a few hours in 2021 and it was an amazing drive. I very nearly bought one but two negatives put me off, 1. The UK charging network/range anxiety and 2. Touch screens, I hate them - that was the major deciding factor for me.

In my case I dont have a "have to" issue thankfully but I do like change even as good as the M8 is.
So for me immediate cars on my radar: Turbo S Maz MC20 New NSX 992 GT3 But having the GTS kind of fills the 992 gaps but the Turbo S is faster and the GT3 is more aggressive. I like the new MC and NSX but not sure how they drive... yet.
