Foot Kick Trunk Open
Mine works, but it takes way too many attempts. After 5+ kicks, I usually just push the button. I’ve tried all I can think of as well as some Google advice. Thoughts?

It seems to be a funny individual thing. My M8 was built during the parts shortage and does not have the feature, but my X4 does. On that car, it works for me 95% or more of the time. But I know others have a 5% success rate. I think that once you get the swing of it (pun intended), it'll keep working for you.

Foot swipe doesn't work for me. A short, sharp, straight on kick dead center. Works most of the time.........except when it doesn't. Then you just look like a spaz.

No issues for me, just stick the foot under the back and whip it out quite quickly, no need to touch the car.
It is a knack though…my good lady gave up some time ago! Worth wiping off the lens for the rear camera while your there as well…. |

Posted a video on an older thread regarding the same "how the heck do you do it" issue with the trunk comfort access. Bottom line is don't pay attention to the manual that describes it as a "wave". Nope straight on, align yourself with the license plate and kick forward/back and it will work 99% of the time. Still working on the 1% failure as I'm not only anal but a tech geek to the bone.

Foot swipe aka "wave" described in the manual (or if you ask a lack of genius on the genius telephone line) is pure BS. Swift kick aligned with the license plate is the winner. 👍

Agreed to disagree but on a 2020 M850i that won't work beyond everyone within visibility considering said owner of the car is having a spasmatic event with some groceries in their hands.

My conclusion is: Some work, some don’t. No rhyme or reason. “Most” of us aren’t idiots, so we are doing it correctly enough, so it “mostly” not user error.

And when it was working today, it was extremely easy to activate too. I tried kicking slightly off center and it still worked. I tried close up, no problem there either! Maybe these sensors are just shitty quality? Or they get contaminated by water? Who knows... Rob |

Works most times for me but only when nobody's looking, if I try it in a public car park it never works so I end up looking like a twat trying to air-kick my car.
I gave up on it ages ago and now just use the key fob button - it's easy to find it by touch, between the two raised ridges, without having to take it out of your pocket. |
