New but not new

Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself - I’m new to the forum and fairly new to my much loved M850i (6 months). Very much a long-term faithful BMW driver and have worked and saved for a long time to be able to finally buy my dream car so I’m a very proud owner! ☺️

I had a 4WD dyno custom stage 1 on both engine and gearbox done by Avon Tuning in Bristol (UK) who worked absolute miracles with it and it’s now outperforming the new M5CS (a work contact has one and is bitterly annoyed now &#128518.

Would be really interested to hear from anyone who has a good contact in the UK for insurance for track days and extended warranty for tuned vehicles - the quotes I’ve had so far have been pure madness!

Drive it fast and hard. Oh, and stay healthy

(That's my own version of the oft-overdone "enjoy in good health" phrase, which sounds like old man talk)

Here you go attached (and for anyone interested). 629 BHP and 852 Nm. It’s the gearbox remap that’s really got the time down though, the changes are SO fast!

It’s managing 0-60 in 2.9 secs. Yet to do a serious 1/4 mile as it would be massively illegal and I don’t yet have anywhere safe to try it but when I do find out I’ll be praying for something starting with a 10 :-D

Can’t find the right insurance to take it to Santa Pod (any help much appreciated there) but it’s booked in for a run at the Beaulieu Supercar weekend later in the year.

Love sharing the love! 😍

It is many, many years since I used to do track days at Brands - insurance was off the scale then………for good reason as it turned out

I can only imagine as the stakes are higher for the insurer knowing the car is going to be driven like a bat out of hell even if in a controlled environment. Just out curiosity do they sell as a rider for a one time event aka single day or is it policy that is the typical 6 months?

I really don’t know….but anything is insurable….depending on how deep your pockets are.

Insurers regularly attend track days to keep an eye on what is being used to avoid fraudulent ‘it didn’t happen in the track ‘ claims.

Yep, you can insure just about anything if you're willing to pay. Case-in-point Tina Turner's legs.
Makes sense for insurers to attend as definitely a way to cut down in fraudulent claims against a regular policy.

Welcome and enjoy that gorgeous Tanzanite Blue M850i! Jealous on the tune as would love to get one on my M850i once the warranty is kaput.

You have a gorgeous 850

I've never seen such a nice finish. Was it wrapped with PPF?
I just got a similar car and it's being wrapped then ceramic treated. Here in the Boston are pits and rock damage claims most front ends, windshields or wheel housings.

Now that’s putting down some power!!!
I just picked up my M850 a couple of weeks ago, only 8k miles, CPO unlimited miles for 3 years, Would love to do a tune but CPO would be void.

I’ve had a quote - 1 day of cover for Goodwood open pit. £532 and a £6000 excess (No that’s not a typo)!!

Sadly, as much as I’d love to do a few track days, I’m not paying that fee plus the track fee plus the fuel and tyres AND still liable for £6K. It means that any scuffs wouldn’t be claimable. Gutted 😞

Massively appreciate that comment because it’s ALL elbow grease and nothing more. I’ve clay detailed it and used a ceramic polish (a lot), Autoglym. Lots of washing and repeated coats. That’s all. A lot of people at the Beaulieu show last summer said “you can see your face in it” which made my face ache smiling by the end of the day 😍

Very interesting comment as that’s my favourite colour… looked for aaages for one in that colour but I couldn’t find any after about 6 months of searching. This is Sonic Speed Blue.

When it came up with such a massive extras package I had to snap it up. Fully loaded 🥰

Are you worried about walls or ‘the other guy?’

I track mine and I’ve never worried about hurting the car but only because I find it’s sooooo much safer than racing the $50,000 show bike, where I was actually worried about everyone else, and walls.

Im going to look that track up, but you’re attending a track day with passing rules, yes, not club racing? So I think you’re fine if you can find a well-run trackday organizer.

Okay, I can’t edit for some reason, but you stated Brands, so what’s the issue? It must be the other guy because that’s a friggin high speed highway. Should be so lucky. You should see the tracks I run.

Check this.

With Santa Pod I guess both, although it’s simple, you just never know. I just imagine something serious happening without the insurance and the feeling of losing everything. I know what you mean, it’s not like we don’t all do it in the road occasionally but I don’t think I could stomach the risk doing it deliberately in a track and finishing somewhere around 140-150 mph!

Goodwood is the track I would probably go to. Again, you’re absolutely right, it’s a well controlled environment. Oddly, I think I’m more comfortable about just getting in with that one as I can choose not to hammer it if I don’t want to.

Really enjoyed watching those videos, thanks for sharing 👍 How do you get on with tyres and brakes on a day like that? Do you just write off both and accept that it’s going to cost to have fun?
