Removing 5k Rev limiter
Hey guys I just got a M8 competition and realized it has a rev limiter at 5,000 RPM. Kind of disappointing because I came from a 2019 M5 competition, and it sounded better 😭. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove this (and not make it obvious to prevent my warranty from being cancelled)

No it’s not cold. They implemented it because of EU noise regulations that happened in 2020. I think almost all the M cars got it. Not sure why they did it to the US spec when it’s just a software thing and not a physical limitation. I was hoping there was a way to program it out. Doubt BimmerCode would work, probably need a tune or something.

“ With a displacement of 4.4 liters, the V8 high- performance engine generates a maximum power of 600 hp, with Competition Pack- age 617 hp, and a maximum torque of 553 lb ft/750 Nm. With its spontaneous re- sponse characteristics, a speed range of wide utility results. The maximum RPM is 7,200 rpm and is electronically controlled. Because of the high engine dynamics, the maximum RPM with the vehicle stationary is reduced.” |

The thing is my 2019 M5 competition had the same exact engine, yet they didn’t limit the rev’s on that. I don’t think it’s a limitation for the engine, everywhere I’ve read online is that it’s a software limitation they put for noise reduction.

Why would you want to do that? Sorry, I don’t get it.

Wasn’t expecting such a strong negative response for wanting to hear my exhaust in a BMW forum 😅. I mean if a paid mid-6 figures for a car, I like to be able to hear its full potential. It’s not like I’m red lining it at every light. Don’t see the need for all the negative responses when all I did was ask for a solution.

I’ve been hearing cranky old farts talk about how revving your engine is “bad for the engine” forever, the reality is that as long as the engine is warmed up, it’s not a big deal. Should you do it all day every day? No, but here and there a rev to redline shouldn’t do any harm
