What is shooting brake?
Is it a wagon? a hatchback?
No one seems to know the real definition in this thread.

It's attractive but also just looks like a "big" BMW to me. I was hoping for something that would pay homage to the original. Long hood, sharp nose, small kidneys and headlights, pillar-less windows, etc. There is a beautiful rendering online of what it should have been.

This is really just a redesigned 6-series with a new name. It's not a "real " 8-series.
I get what you're saying, but no brand (outside concepts) will design a car like you describe, when it's clearly against their current design language

doesn't sound that way... .. you will still hate the styling..

Pilot less? what does Pilar have to do with this?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting-brake

Shooting-brake is a car body style that has evolved through several distinct meanings over its history. Shooting-brake originated as an early 19th century British term for a vehicle used to carry shooting parties with their equipment and game. The term brake was initially a chassis used to break in horses — and was subsequently used to describe a motorized vehicle.

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

Like, like, like!

If I ever was to get an 8 Series it would be the i8 Sport. These cars are just way too big and suck way too much gas. But I like these specific renderings a lot.

Cool BMW Z9 Concept

The sleek 1999 BMW Z9 Concept is my second favorite BMW Design Concept.

To me this is what a current BMW should look like, not just kind of like the concept but it exactly the concept. Tweaks that would make for this Z9 would be the door handles and side mirrors and that's it.

That's right "The Future Is Now" let's make it happened BMW, quit dicking around.

You’re kidding, right?
The E31 8-series (yes, I currently own one) is nothing like the E24 (yes, I owned one of those, too). Engine, chassis, suspension, tech were huge steps. 8series technology then filtered down throughout the E34, E36, E38, E39 chassis.

My point is that the now old 8 could've easily just been badged as a new 6.

BMW never offered the 6 and 8 at the same time so there really is no such thing as a "real 8" or "real 6". Both were top of the line BMW coupes at their time.

So which other manufacturers have a new sexy model like this 8 series apart from hyper cars. Common guys, BMW has got this right
